Puttur, Jan 7: Condemning the inordinate delay in submission of investigation report into the deaths of locals, Poovakka and Ayishat Haseena, villagers from Panaje in the taluk have decided to hold protest. Poovakka and Ayishat had died a few days after they were identified with heart-related complications by a team of doctors during health check-up camp, and were provided treatment under Vajpayee Arogyasri scheme of the government.

This decision was taken at the panchayat meeting organized at Panaje gram panchayat office. The meeting was chaired by gram panchayat president, Narayana Poojary.

The doctors who checked the health of a number of villagers at the camp held at the primary health centre, had referred these two persons to a private hospital at Mangaluru for advanced treatment. After being treated at the hospital, both of them had breathed their last. The villagers had alleged that these deaths occurred because of medical negligence.

State health minister, U T Khader, and officials of Arogyasri scheme had visited Panaje and promised to hold detailed investigation, duly dealing the issue with the seriousness it deserves. Thereafter, the villagers had requested the district health department to make the investigation report public, but their demand was not met. The villagers, fed up by the attitude of the department, have taken a decision to hold protest.
