Mangaluru, Jan 9: In a sad incident, a man committed suicide along with his young daughter by jumping into Shambhavi river near Mulky here. The incident came to light after their bodies were found on Saturday January 9.
The deceased have been identified as Diwakar (42) of Niddodi and his daughter Dhriti (6) who had just started school.
An electrician by profession, Diwakar was married to a woman from Mattu. Apart from Dhriti, the couple were blessed with another daughter. Family sources said that Diwakar had entrusted his other daughter to the care of his relatives.
It is learnt that Diwakar suffered heavy financial losses, which drove him to take this extreme step. He went missing along with his daughter on Friday January 8, and his wife, who thought he might have gone to Kundapur to visit some relatives, went there looking for them.
Diwakar tied his daughter Dhriti to his back with a piece of cloth and jumped into the Shambhavi river. Their bodies were found floating in a pond at Jalaka, Badaguhitlu on Saturday.
Mulky police have registered a case.
