Beltangady: Christmas Eve theft - Police arrest thief, seize valuables worth Rs 3.2 lac

Beltangady, Jan 10: Police have arrested a thief who broke into a house on the Christmas Eve and seized stolen items from him including a car.

Peter M J (36) from Thotathadi near here is the person arrested.

The theft had taken place at the house of Elias in Ayypallil in Thotathadi village on the night of December 24. When all the people from the house of Elias had gone to the church for Christmas Eve mass, Peter broke into the house and stole various items.

The items stolen were - Rs 1.5 lac cash, 80 grams of golden jewellery, 50 grams of silver jewellery, house documents, mobile phones, ATM, Aadhar and Pan cards and 150 kilograms of rubber sheets. The value of all the stolen items including cash was estimated at Rs 3.20 lac. Police also seized an Indica car used for the theft.

Peter was arrested by circle inspector Lingappa and team on Friday. He was produced in court on Saturday. The police team included sub inspector Sandesh P G, head constable Ashok Sapalya, Venkatesh Paulose, Karunakara, Thomas, Ganesh, Harish Siddakatte, Prasanna Kumar and Geetha.

It is said that Peter is also a suspect in a case of water tank poisoning which took place a few days back.

    If someone else's house is robbed /destroyed, no problem, releases him on bail. Would you propagate same logic if one’s own house is broken?
    Punish the culprit without leniency. Crimes need to be dealt with proper punishment first.
