Bhatkal, Jan 10: In a tragic incident, a man and his young daughter hailing from Bhatkal were killed in an accident on Riyadh-Jeddah route in Saudi Arabia on in the wee hours of Sunday January 10.
The deceased have been identified as Fayaz Gawai (45) and his daughter Fiza (7).
Five others were injured in the accident.
It is learnt that on Saturday evening, families of Fayaz Gawai and Yasir Manna, both hailing from Bhatkal left from Jubail to Makkah to perform Umrah. When they reached Dhalam, about 430 km away from Jeddah, a speeding car driven by an Arab rammed into the Fortuner in which the families were travelling. The accident occured at around 1.40 am (local time).
The impact was such that Fayaz and his daughter were killed on the spot. Fayaz's wife Faiza (38) and their two sons Umar (4) and Faihaan (2), relative Ansar Shingheti (46) and Yasir Manna (40) sustained injuries. Yasir Manna, who was driving the vehicle, is said to be serious, while the other four suffered minor injuries.
The injured have been admitted to Taif hospital. Members of Bhatkal Muslim Association rushed to the spot. Procedures are on to bring back the bodies to Bhatkal.
Both the families are residents of Madina Colony in Bhatkal.
