Udupi, Jan 10: District superintendent of police K Annamalai on Sunday January 10 flagged off 'Suraksha Rath' aimed at creating awareness about public safety and security during Paryayotsava at Town Hall premises in Ajjarkad here.

The programme was jointly organized by Udupi district police, Udupi Paryaya welcome committee, Ujwal Developers Udupi-Manipal and Lions Club, Parkala.

Addressing the gathering, SP Annamalai said, "BJP senior leader L K Advani has confirmed his visit to Paryaya and Z-plus category security would be provided to him and all other VIPs who attend this historic Paryaya. Traffic will be monitored to facilitate their visit. I urge public support for the smooth completion of Paryaya celebrations.

"This time, the police department is expecting five times more crowd than the previous Paryaya. Thieves are likely to come from various states such as Nagpur and West Bengal during the festival. The shop owners should be vigilant about their properties during the two-day Paryaya celebrations," he said.

"It is better to avoid work and family functions during the two days of Paryayotsava. Nowadays thieves are using advanced tactics to divert public attention," he added.

'Suraksha Rath' propagates awareness about Swachh Udupi, cautions about shoplifters, traffic rules and thefts. The Suraksha Rath van will patrol in and around the city during the festival.

Lions district Manipal 317 C Suresh Prabhu, circle inspector Srikant, SI Girish, owner of Ujwal Developers Puroshottam Shetty and others were present.
