Puttur: Burglary leaves doctor couple poorer by Rs 15 lac

Puttur, Jan 11: Unknown thieves forced their entry into the home of a well-known medical practitioner from the town, Dr K Suresh Putturaya, and left with a booty of around Rs 15 lac including cash and gold ornaments. The theft occurred on the night of Saturday January 9. This happens to be the second major theft in the town during the last one week.

The couple, Dr K Suresh Puttaraya, and his wife, Dr Asha, had left for Mangaluru on Saturday morning. Their domestic help had returned to her home on Saturday evening after completing work, duly locking the front door of the house. The domestic help returned on Sunday morning, and upon opening the front door and entering the house, realized that it had been burgled. Thereafter, she called the doctor couple over phone.

The thieves are found to have gained entry into the house by breaking open the door of the patient consultation room located by the side of the house. They then opened the door of the wardrobe inside the house and took away gold and cash. Out of the stolen valuables, Rs 30,000 comprises of cash.

Local assistant superintendent of police, C B Rishvanth, town police inspector, Mahesh Prasad, and city police sub-inspector, Abdul Khader, visited the spot and took up investigation. The sniffer dog summoned to help in investigation lost its way after leading the police till the bypass road, signalling that the thieves reached bypass road before travelling to their destination. Finger print experts also surveyed the area.

In the theft which occurred here five days back too, a house at Parladka on bypass road had been burgled when the family was away after locking their home. Policemen, who are looking for clues in the case, have begun investigation.
