Mangaluru, Jan 11: Karnataka minister for urban development Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday January 11 inaugurated the sewage treatment plant built at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore under ADB project at Madhav Nagar, Suratkal here.

Speaking during the inaugural ceremony, Sorake said, "Along with development, the number of malaria cases is increasing in Mangaluru. Clean environment is what everybody wants, and it is everybody's responsibility too."

“The long-awaited dream of having a sewage treatment plant has become a reality now. I request people to connect their house drainage system to it and put the facility to optimum use," he added.

"The state and the union governments will provide excellent infrastructure in the state by contributing Rs 500 crore each. The central and state government will be releasing Rs 100 crore each under Amrut project,” he said.

Mangaluru north zone, MLA Mohiuddin Bava presided over the programme. District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Mangaluru corporation mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred, deputy mayor Purushottam Chitrapur, city project and development committee president Deepak K Poojary, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, MUDA chairman Kodijal Ibrahim and others were present.
