Helmet hunt starts as it becomes compulsory for pillion riders

Bengaluru, Jan 12: The compulsory wearing of helmet even for the pillion riders of two-wheelers has come into effect from today in the state. From now onwards both the rider and the pillion rider of the two- wheelers have to wear helmets in the state.

The rule says that all the people travelling on two- wheelers above the age of 12 will have to wear the helmets. The sources in the transport department said that though the rule comes into effect from January 12, police will not make the offenders to pay fine now. The 'offence' will be tolerated till the month- end to allow them to buy additional helmets.

As per an estimate, the state needs 60 lac helmets. While the supply is less than the present demand in normal helmets, children helmets are not easily found at all.

The helmets available from Rs 700 onwards presently will not be available in previous prices, some said. As there is already a shortage, there will be a premium as per the law of demand and supply.

Now it is the helmet hunt time for the owners of two-wheelers.

    Developed nations where there are perfect roads- 2 wheeler helmets are mandatory even in slow moving roads.
    The rule was enforced with evidence from deaths and brain damage due to injuries to the head as vehicles as slow as 16 km?hr speed. One of the good things we learn ( in this era of globalisation and modernization ) is that people respect the evidence and learn from it. We cannot use the roads are bad excuse here.

    We ape westernization(negative things from west) but the ethics and healthy respect to law and appreciation of rules we need to learn.

    Use of soft cloth as sweat absorber is time tested solution for people with sweaty heads or in the hot season.

    If we blame our politicians when they enforce good regulations- we give credence to the saying: " people deserve their politicians"

    Lets be united for progress ( irrespective of party politics and ideology)- lets not find dirt ( Lobby making money) when there is genuine need for helmets. Prevention of head injuries is much better option than suffering traumatic brain injury and living a shortened painful life if we do survive the accident.

    This rule is just not something to be lent a deaf ear to. It is observed that apart from wearing the helmets several riders do not use the strap to fasten the helmets. In the case of an accident the rider and helmet will fly in different directions.

    The Traffic Wardens Squad has commenced playing important roles in educating two wheeler drives.

    It is a good move & Hope people will co-operate with Govt / RTO & Police Dept in this move.
    As this rule gets compulsory I have few concerns to mention about :
    * will Govt give us good roads to wear helmets n ride. Present day few roads will give people neck n head problems. Good Business for Doctors.
    * Which helmet company has bribed our baboos most to take this initiative now? Some godown might have un-sold helmet stock which needs a clearance sale.!!
    * in a family - husband s wife to work but wife gets home after work on her own. So she has to carry this extra luggage of helmet with her. This can be a major concern for many people.
    * also if a bike rider finds his / her friend waiting for a bus & wishes to give a ride till their destination, it is now not possible because " No Helmet " ..!!
    So, people we have anew rule to follow.

    In Mangalore (elsewhere) it's a common sight where family of 3-4 (wife & kids) regularly move in two wheeler. Any concern for children's safety.

    At present 99% of two wheeler riders are not wearing helmets. That means 99% of riders are not interested in wearing helmets. Because there are so many problems to wear helmets. When the Government is not maintaining good roads so many deaths will occur. So before making compulsion of wearing helmets, Govt. should maintain the roads in a good manner

    From now on its an extra baggage, wherever they go by two wheeler, they need to carry helmet, else they should keep somewhere on rental basis

    In Bengaluru there is a superstition - Whichever Govt has made Helmet compulsory they have lost badly in next election. This superstition started when Devaraj Urs govt made Helmet compulsory and lost next election very badly.

    More Rules More Opportunity to make more money!
    The previous rule was in city limits only, now suddenly its been extended to the whole state, at least 3 month breather should be given before it is made compulsory.

    Very good rule. First time violation penalty should be fine. Second time penalty should incur suspension of DL for 3 months. Repeat offenders should loose their DL for a year.

    There are no excuses for not wearing helmets.

    This is good for common people whoever drive motor bike. but there is advantage safe the life of pillion riders. Now a days most of bike back seat will be higher than rider seat so when we will apply sudden break pillion riders will throw out. So this is good for decision. Another disadvantages we unable to identify rider or pillion’s face of terrorists or whoever doing robbery they can easily escape. So it will increase crime. Also it will increase bribery.
