Mangaluru, Jan 14: The work on the long-awaited musical fountain at the old Deer Park in Kadri was flagged off Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo on Thursday January 14.

Addressing media persons, J R Lobo said, "Musical fountain will come up in place of the old Deer Park. Tender process is completed and Prabhakar Yeyyadi has taken up the contract. We have already got all the necessary documentations in place and obtained the required permissions.

"The urban development ministry has approved Rs 4.97 crore for this project. Venkatesh Pai has designed the musical fountain. Apart from the musical fountain, this will also include landscaping, a small amphitheatre for children and a shopping kiosk. The contractor has promised to finish the civil works within four months.

"The project has been taken up under Mangaluru Urban Development Authority and the entire cost is being borne by the urban development department. We expect the musical fountain to be ready in six months. I have many more plans to enhance the beauty of Kadri Park and I will reveal them once all the formalities are complete," Lobo added.

The musical fountain will come in an area of about 4.01 acre at the old Deer Park in Kadri and is expected to be complete by June end this year.

MUDA commissioner Nazeer, T K Sudheer and others were present.

I think the children's play area, slides and rides requires an early upgrade and attention. The iron bar concept is outdated and the latest plastic or fibre kind is most safe for the children. If that area can be refurbished immediately, it would be good for families with children.

good initiative. but lets see whether the projects will finish 4 to 6 months or 4 to 6 years. only time will tell..

30 laks for kadri fancy gate. 4.97 crores musical fountain, small amphitheatre for children and a shopping kiosk. I hope such huge public money spent will be rightly utilized for mentioned purpose.

good move. But only worry is the time line. Let this , at least be tracked as a project , both on cost and time line and become a model for all upcoming projects in Mangalore. Complete enthu will be lost if it takes years to complete and end of the day hand over with a pathetic condition as it happened with Bykampady bridge. So, who ever owns and execute this project, please give Mangaloreans a good and model project.
