Akshay, Abhishek, Riteish entertain badminton fans


ArrayNew Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS): Bollywood fans got an exciting dose of their favourite stars in action but in a unique way, as actors Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh picked up racquets to play a game of badminton during the Premier Badminton League (PBL) final here on Sunday.

The trio played a couple of exhibition matches in between the final to make the monies worth of the spectators in the stadium as the crowd went bonkers seeing their favourite actors take to the court at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.

As the game was played after two and before three matches of the final, the timing could have been questioned but, nevertheless, it completely entertained the crowd, who were applauding every move of the three actors.

They were joined by Indian badminton stars Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa and P.V. Sindhu. Though the three were also playing the tournament, their teams got knocked out of the competition earlier.

First, Abhishek teamed up with Jwala to face Sindhu and Akshay while Riteish became the chair umpire. PBL chairman Akhilesh Das Gupta took his spot as the service judge.

Next up, the crowd saw a unique triples game with the three Bollywood actors teaming up against Jwala, Ashwini and Sindhu. This time Das Gupta took the umpire's chair.

The action sent the crowd crazy, applauding and appreciating each moment. PBL brand ambassador Akshay also managed to hit a few smashes.

In the end, the six threw a few racquets into the crowd after which all six were felicitated by Das Gupta.

The final is being played between the Delhi Acers and Mumbai Rockets.
