Bantwal: Fearing cops, auto drivers refuse to help accident victim

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jan 19: The rider of a motor bike was seriously injured after the two-wheeler he was riding got involved in head-on collision with a jeep at Kambalabettu Junction at Vittal on Puttur Road on Monday January 18.

Roopesh (28), a resident of Adyanadka in Kepu village suffered extensive injuries in this accident. He was moving to Puttur from the direction of Vittal on Monday morning, when his vehicle collided with a jeep coming from the direction of Puttur at Kambalabettu Junction. After Roopesh was thrown on to the road due to the impact of the accident, he suffered grievous injuries to his legs and hands. He was taken to a hospital in Mangaluru by 108 ambulance sometime later.

The victim was writhing in pain because of deep injuries in the accident on the road. Some locals volunteered to take him to the government hospital at Puttur, but auto rickshaw drivers refused to ply to the town, citing that police personnel there have been stopping auto rickshaws bearing registration number starting with KA 19 and imposing huge fines on a regular basis. This stand of the auto rickshaw drivers irked the locals. As they had no other go, they waited for half an hour before 108 ambulance came there.

The auto rickshaw drivers agreed that going to the hospital at Puttur as early as possible is of utmost importance for the accident victims, but claimed that auto rickshaws registered at Mangaluru are stopped by the policemen of Puttur and penalized on a regular basis for entering their jurisdiction. They explained that they are therefore hesitant to go to Puttur.

That is not a justification by auto drivers. May be they have formed a union and wanted to show their resentment in this way against penalty.

Agree auto drivers could not able to take him. Honestly, it is not the best mode to take the injured person. How about taxis or any private cars. Instead of blaming auto's use the alternatives. Auto is small vehicle not to transport injured persons...

Auto driver huh!! 85% of them are rude,arrogant..No humanity and concern at all..Our house is little interior from the main road in mangalore, about 10-15 mins walking distance.. In rare cases we have to take an auto while coming from market or afternoon time. No autos agree to take come that way. They say they have to go empty auto back..If buses are there who will stop the auto, since no buses we ask the autos..

Most of the auto drivers in Mangalore are very harsh and make their own rules. It is right time for the higher up people of concerned dept to bring in a system for the transport dept and the general public to help each other systematically and peacefully. The arrogant auto drivers may please be shown a right direction to function smoothly for the benefit of the people with a sincere heart.

No police wire dare to put a fine on auto carrying accident victim.Even if penalized its is worth to take a victim to hospital as your rewards from above are much more than fines you pay .Serve humanity and you will get rewarded by almighty.

Hard to believe the auto driver’s statement. They may be bothered who will pay the auto fare, if the injured don’t have money in his pocket. I don’t think that Karnataka Police are not so rude and un-humanitarian to impose fine for Mangalore auto while doing humanitarian task. Auto drivers pls widen your view. After all it is human life you are going to protect.

If we see from 1 side, every one will say there will be patient in auto, so police will not catch him.
But if we see other part, yes who will be with him while return.
