Udupi, Jan 19: In a tragic incident, a four-year-old child was crushed under a bus near Shirva mosque here late evening on Tuesday January 19.

The deceased has been identified as Mahin Taj, daughter of Javed Badshah and Parveen Taj from Shirva, who reside in Mysuru. A few days ago, the parents left their daughter at her grandparents' house in Shirva.

On Tuesday, at around 7 pm, the grandparents along with Mahin Taj were waiting near Shirva mosque to catch a bus to Moodubelle. When a bus halted where they were waiting, they asked the conductor if the bus went to Moodubelle, to which he replied in the negative. Almost at the same time, the driver stepped on the accelarator and the bus moved forward, running over the child who was standing nearby, sources said.

Mahin Taj was rushed to a local hospital, but she breathed her last on the way.

The body was sent to Shirva health centre for post-mortem, but the doctors initially refused to conduct the procedure, which irked the locals. Kaup SI Sunil Naik then intervened and managed to persuade the doctors, after which the post-mortem was done.

Sources said that due to shortage of staff in Shirva health centre, doctors are rarely available in emergency situations here. When health minister U T Khader recently visited the hospital, he noted the shortage of staff and assured that doctors would be appointed immediately. However, no action has been taken so far, complained the locals.

The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem and later sent to Mysuru.

Shirva police have registered a case.

I feel the basic problem is not the divers of the bus its the passengers. 1) Why do people stand on the road instead of inside the bus stop? 2) When the driver drives recklessly why do we keep quite? Its our life and we are paying them to take us safely to our destination. If people get together and shout at the driver then only they will learn. Mangalore roads are not safe because of the bus drivers.

Shirva is a predominantly backward class locality lacking basic medical amenities. The facilities rendered in Shirva are far far away from satisfactory. For any urgent attention, the nearest centre one can obtain is from Udupi which is a 35 minutes commuting by bus. In all probability, the child could have survived (I speculate) if the local hospital was nearby. This write-up does not specifically state how far the hospital was from the accident site. It is high time the authorities upgraded it to a respectable status to avoid any recurrence in-the-near-future.

RIP to the departed soul and may God give the bereaved family fortitude and courage to face this irreparable loss.

knowing the situation in and around mangalore, it's clear that this is due to clear negligence of driver and conductor. As soon as they realized these passengers are not of their benefit, they just ignored and accelerator was pressed, ignoring who is under tyre. but the question is , what's going to happen for this driver. Will there be any punishment. Ever it happened that any drivers got punished for their such crimes. I am sure today also that driver must be driving same bus same route. That's the tragedy.

Death due to reckless driving. Driver should be punished for murder and not accident. May her soul rest in peace.

I think the child did not wear helmet. According to the Government, she might have survived if she wore helmet. The government should ask all the travelers to wear helmet irrespective of rickshaw, bus train.

No doubt, parents take care of their children properly but sometimes this kind of incidents take place due to other's error. In this particular case prima facie looks like it was happened due to sheer negligence, ignorance of conductor and driver of the bus. Both drivers and conductors are impatient now a days.Their rude attitude, rough behaviour, egoism cost the lives of others so dearly. That what happened here.Very unfortunate and sad incident. One precious life of an innocent girl has been lost.Negligence from both conductors and drivers. But Who is the loser here, poor parents and family members of this child.Pray to god to let this departed soul of an innocent girl rest in peace and family to overcome this tragic and irreparable loss.RIP

There is a chance of ceiling to fall. Be an adult while commenting. In India motor bike rider dont wear helmet and you expect public to wear helmet.Do u know what is helmet and what protection u get from helmet.Try to put one helmet under rear wheel of the bus and see if it gets damaged ten talk about public to wear it
