Bantwal, Jan 21: The state high court (HC) granted bail to Bhuvith Shetty, accused of involvement with stone pelting incident at BC Road in the taluk in the aftermath of communal clashes which had erupted at Madikeri during celebrations connected with birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan. Shetty was granted bail on Wednesday January 20.

The single judge bench of the HC presided over by Justice A V Chandrashekhar, which heard the petition filed by Bhuvith Shetty, came to the conclusion that Bhuvith is eligible to get bail in the case as there are no appropriate evidences on record to show that he had directly participated in the said activity.

In connection with the communal clashes which occurred at the time of celebration of Tipu Sultan's birth anniversary at Madikeri, Kodagu district, activists of SDPI had prepared to file complaint against activists of Hindu organizations. In this context, stone pelting incident had occurred at B C Road. Police personnel, who had taken up the case, had arrested Bhuvith Shetty and named him as the main accused.

Bhuvith was also arrested for the murder of Harish Poojary which took place on November 12 at Manihalla near BC Road. It is learnt that he has applied for bail in the high court in this case too.
