Udupi, Jan 21: The new Bunts Bhavan commercial complex-cum-community hall of the Bunts alias Nadavara Matru Sangha was inaugurated at Brahmavar here on Wednesday January 20. The complex is located close to the Brahmavar bus stand.
Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri inaugurated the stage programme by lighting the lamp, while Dr Subhaschandra Shetty, MDS, Confident Dental Equipment, Bengaluru, inaugurated the Meenakshi Narayan Shetty auditorium.
On the same occasion, the Altaru Sharan Sundar Shetty apartments were inaugurated by Sundar Shetty of Nihal Restaurant, Abu Dhabi, while the dining hall was inaugurated by Vakwadi Praveen Shetty of Fortune Group of Hotels, Dubai.
The auditorium was opened by Aruna S Hegde and Sudarshan Hegde of Swarna Brahmavar and the main entrance was inaugurated by Vishalakshi V Shetty and Vittal Shetty of Shedikodlu, Mandarti.
Dr Mohan Alva in his inaugural address said that the Bunts community has spread its wings in all fields. "The human community is a society beyond caste or religion. There is a need to understand the true meaning of the concept of 'society'.
"We have been born into a proud community. Bunts are large hearted, but people need to be cautious about misuse of charity. Charity or goodness might be a weakness of this community," he added.
Udupi MLA, Pramod Madhwaraj said Brahmavar till now lacked such a Bunts Bhavan. "But now the picture has changed. The community has stood strong despite lack of government reservations. Most of the Bunts are self made people. Such community halls strengthen unity and confidence among their members."
Donors, engineers and architects of the project were honoured by the Bunts organization.
Kenchanur Somashekhar welcomed the gathering.
Bhujanga Shetty, convener delivered the keynote address.
Maladi Ajit Kumar Rai presided over the programmd.
