Karkala: Happy ending - Thanks to police, Sri Lankan reunites with husband

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jan 22: K R Rafiya, a Sri Lankan, who had landed here in the second week of January, claiming that she had married Syed Yousuf from Miyar Jodukatte when in Kuwait and that he had deserted her and married another lady at his native place, was reunited with her husband with the efforts of the police personnel here.

Rafiya had claimed that when working as beautician at Kuwait, she had come in contact with Yousuf working for an oil refinery there. Syed, who had come to his native place thereafter, had settled down here after marrying a local girl. Rafiya, after a frustrating wait, had come searching for her husband.

Although initially Yousuf firmly claimed that he had nothing to do with Rafiya, he relented and confessed that he had married her. After the police personnel held talks, he agreed to look after both his wives well, and executed a bond in the police station to that effect.

Rafiya, it is gathered, has gone back to Kuwait to pursue her job, happy that her marriage is secure and her husband has accepted her. Dr Sumana, deputy superintendent of police here, played a major role in reuniting the couple.

Here one need to appreciate the courage of the girl also for coming all the way to a an unknown remote place in a foreign land. Otherwise this issue would have gone unnoticed to the world.

This whole mess could be avoided in the future if there is a uniform civil code, including marriage and succession but the religious minorities will have nothing of it. They want their religious laws to trump all civil rights. Reform must come from within the communities in cases like this. There seems to be a method in this madness the religious minority will overtake the majority in less than half a century!

After marriage if they live together either here or in Kuwait, one can say it is a sensible thing to do, if she lives in Kuwait and he here with other wife, it is sort of marriage of convenience.

She`s fighter. Wait and see.How she will get visa for Sayyed and lift him from karkala legally and repair him there. He cannot get local support to play there. There in Kuwait bail is not so easy like in India only jail, or else he bound to pay compensation in Dirhams or Riyals. Smart lady.

I really liked your "lift him from Karkala and repair him in Kuwait." What do you mean ? She will break his parts and repair or she will make him to mend his ways ?
Whatever it is, do not under estimate Sayyad, he seems to be smarter than her.
He will receive her Kuwaiti dinar
Will spend on his karkala dildaar.

Legally, NO!If both or one of the party is not registered under either of the 5 Indian Marriage acts, that marriage is considered null and void. So, thereby you're safe. *pun intended*. haha

    Mr. Santhekatte,

Advise to be a good human being before asking them to consider language, culture, religion, nationality before going to marry. Why is there a different law for females and a different law for men?

It's permissible legally for an Indian Muslim man to have four wives (when other wives are alive) if the marriage(s) is registered under the Shariah Marriage law. So no question of punishment whatsoever. However, he could have been tried by the law under the charges of cheating and deceiving under various sections. But since the Bride is a Sri Lankan national, this whole concept becomes complicated. So, unfortunately he escapes punishment of any sort.
