Mangaluru, Jan 22: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai on Friday January 22 inaugurated a newly built entrance gate at Kadri Park here.

Rs 29 lac from J R Lobo's MLA fund was spent for the construction of the entrance gate.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said, "The Kadri Park is centre of attraction in the city. This project has been initiated to give a facelift to the park. As part of Karavali utsav this year, many major programmes will be held here. A musical fountain will also come up in the area of old deer park. I request the citizens to maintain clenliness in the park. Government will also take up many projects in the future to beautify the park."

MLA J R Lobo said "The entrance was much needed for this park. Horticulture department officials have worked hard to make this park better. We cannot say its completely perfect but there has been improvements certainly. I appreciate the officials for their efforts. Still there are some works to be taken. Government has sanctioned Rs 40 lac to reinstall the mini train but the railway officials have given a quotation of Rs 80 lac. We will request government for rest Rs 40 lac. The work of mini train will be completed within a year. Musical fountain work has started with the government sanctioning Rs 5 crore and will be completed at the earliest."

Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Corporators and other officials were present.

What has been spent for the gate is ok . now more im portant than the musical fountain and toy train is to have a good food court and clean toilets inside.Instead of toy train, horse riding could be introduced for children or any other means of amusements.

The entrance looks beautiful.Whatever the amount spent is spent. At least some work is done.
The most important is there are no toilets inside the park. It is pathetic to see people trying to answer nature's call behind the bushes.
I hope before we get musical fountain, we get some proper toilets.

Corruption at its best. 29 lakhs just for the gate and entrance structure (builder kickbacks). Corporators and mayor are busy practising real estate culture, cutting builders ribbons. Look at the state of MCC interior roads, full of potholes. They are not tarred even every 5 years. Recent cutting trees on valencia road opposite jeppu seminary must be condemned by Catholic Diocese of Mangalore. Warning: 18 percent catholic voters must not be taken for granted. Why not broaden Balmatta, Hampankatta, Falnir, Airport road and Lalbagh road to 4 lane? Mayor, MLA, MLC must respect sentiments of catholic community being catholics, not just favouring real estaters. Congress! You will loose next election if you ignore our sentiments of nature friendly.

Fantastic!!!Now its our duty to maintain cleanliness. Please impose heavy fines .Cctv camera installation is the must.Use solar lights and there should be separate sports track in the park for jogging. This will be additional beauty to the park.

Toy train costs 80 lakhs. it's nothing but a junk of steel. We don't need this kind of train. Govt. need to see the toy trains operated in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. It's very user friendly and it's light weight. So don't consume too much electricity or diesel and easy to maintain. Govt should look into these options rather than building a toy train, which is unfriendly.

People have cribbed and they will crib more at the Rs 29 lakhs spent on the Main Gate.We spend more than that even on modest flats. Besides the money has come from the MLA's discretionary fund. But, what an impressive structure we get for the money.Mr.the earlier entrance gate was crude and unsightly. I think we should thank Mr. Lobo for improving Kadri garden and the projects he has lined up for its further improvement.
