Media Release

Dubai, Jan 24: The long wait is finally over! Konkani film, 'Nachom-ia-Kumpasar' will be screened twice on Friday, 29 January at the Indian High School Auditorium, Dubai.

Since the premiere of the film in Goa in December 2014, the film has been witnessing full house wherever it was screened. After been showcased in numerous film festivals world wide and winning many awards, the film will be premiered in Dubai on January  29.

About the film:

'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' is a Konkani feature film - a tribute to Goan Music and her legendary musicians. Narrated through the emotional roller coaster of a love story destined to tragedy, it celebrates Goan music through the eyes of its prodigiously eclectic generation of musicians in the 1960s and 70s. The film weaves its lilting narrative through 20 timeless Konkani songs of Chris Perry & Lorna that capture the timbre and texture of a sound scape these musicians made their own. Everyone from Goa is familiar with Chris Perry and Lorna Cordeiro and the magical music they made together in the world of Konkani Jazz. Perry not only discovered Cordeiro, but made her the darling of Bombay’s Night Club scene in the 1960s and early 70s. The bitter sweet relationship between a young singer and her musician mentor set against the backdrop of the jazz clubs of Bombay and the musicians from Goa during the 60s. In the 1960s Lawry a young Goan musician playing in the nightclubs of Bombay, returns to Goa to find a singer for his band where he meets Donna. While Lawry moulds the impressionable young Donna into a talented singer, they fall deeply in love. Based on actual events this quasi biographical film is a tribute to one of Goa's greatest, yet barely acknowledged legacy - its musicians, who once upon a time set the jazz clubs of Bombay on fire and actually shaped the music of Bollywood cinema. Nachom-ia Kumpasar is a nostalgic musical tale set in the times these formidable talents lived and died in - unrecognized, unappreciated...and unsung.
