Mangaluru: Poojary's decision to stay away from activists' meet signals rift

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Veteram Congress leader and former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary, remained absent from the party activists meet held here on Saturday January 23. This clearly showed that internal rift has been bothering the party.

This meet was called with the stated purpose of thanking the activists of the party for ensuring the success of party nominee for legislative council election, K Pratapchandra Shetty, in spite of the challenge posed by the presence of two significant rebel candidates.

It is being claimed that Poojary decided not to take part in the meet as he did not get official invitation from the district committee of the Congress. It is also being claimed that some party leaders ensured that he was kept away from this important meet.

The meeting, in which Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, ministers, U T Khader, B Ramanath Rai, and Vinay Kumar Sorake and many elected representatives from the twin-districts participated, also provided a forum for discussing techniques to face the upcoming taluk and zilla panchayat election. Poojary, who used to make it a point to be present in all party functions, was conspicuous by his absence, but no one made a mention about it at the meet.

It is said that the district unit of the Congress had not printed invitations or pamphlets for this meet, and all the invitees were contacted over phone. Poojary too was extended an invitation over phone by district committee headed by Kodijal Ibrahim, it is learnt. Poojary's decision to distance himself from this meet has come at a time when the party is bracing to face zilla and taluk panchayat elections. This development has provided fodder for some debate and soul searching within the party.

    Dear Shravan Shetty, Manipal

I think you are not getting dreams.

At least Congress is not building castles in the air as BJP and its Bhakts build mountains of promises in the Air/Wind.

My hero & support to BJP, a true pioneer of micro finance (loan mela fame of early 1980's), ...unfortunately the progromme could not get the desired/deserved level of support by financial institutions/ officials for its success.

At the sametime Mohd Younus of Bangladesh successfully implemented the same programme with the support of financial institutions & the govt., which in turn earn him the Nobel Prize.

    Jai Ho.. BJP.

    Dear Mr. Janardhan Poojary,

We may get annoyed with you some times, but deep down in our heart we have lot of respect for you, because you are honest, sincere man, non corrupt, always speaks the truth and reality, some times you go over board, with your silly comments and expressing about your opponents personal life & unrealistic things, which is wrong, it worked during the 70's but will never work now.

Now things have changed, use social media, tweeter, blog, face book, Cloud etc, forget about doing press conferences, do once a week or a month, door knocking and keep in touch with people, in Western Countries Politician do both use social media & modern technology to keep in touch with people as well as door knocking, trust us, UK PM David Cameron did the same when no opinion poll gave him a chance, he proved all wrong.

You are a strong Congress man, and we are very sure you will stick with that. You be a mentor and guide the congress in DK, don't worry about your distractors, you have more enemy's within your own party than opposition. In fact opposition have more respect for you sir.

Mr. Poojary if you have some spare time watch a Hollywood movie called "Enemy at the Gate" it will give you lot of insight as to whats happening in congress, especially DK, you are a smart man, you will work it out.

    Your admirer & sympathizer.

Once Poojary goes Congress has the hope to win Mangalore seat.

Congress should choose good leaders like J. R. Lobo, U.T. Khadar or Ramanath Rai for M.P., position.

The strategies adoped by Jannanna is too old. It might have worked in 70s. Not today, with Social Media soo active, an individuals every minute is watched. And with the worthless press conference he calls, has no justification. This ploy is too outdated. If Jannanna joins BJP, then Cong has chances of winning.

This will be the downfall of congress in Mangalore as we know how strong a leader Mr. Poojary is and he does not need Oscar, Moily etc to support him as they became leaders thanks to him and they are the ones who stabbed him int he back. Mr. Poojary can organize bigger meetings as his support base is huge. Downfall of congress is eminent if Mr. Poojary is sidelined. Congress has become Mrs. Blossom Fernandes`s party.

It is humiliating, sad and obvious, Pujari is a liability to the party. After gifting the grand old party with 6 defeats, what can you expect. Its too late for Pujari to prove and bounce back, moreover age too is not on his side. All the leaders in current Cong are worthless. The only criteria they have is to fool the minorities by making them believe that the party leaders are the 'minority saviours'. This drama is not going to be successful next time.
