Mangaluru, Jan 26: "Today corruption is so rampant in India that it has not even spared the media," said Justice Santhosh Hegde, former Lokayukta of Karnataka.

He was addressing a programme to honour the families of martyrs and injured soldiers organized by M Friends Trust at School of Social Work, Roshini Nilaya here on Tuesday January 26.

"Two important values are missing in society today - contentment and humanity. Everyone is greedy and wants to possess more, due to which the entire society is adversely affected. Due to lack of contentment everyone has become greedy and corrupt. From the Nira Radia case we came to know about the secret of paid news. After exploiting the three pillars of democracy namely the legislature, the judiciary and the executive, corruption has also spoilt the media.

He further said that people have become greedy and lost humanity. "If this trend continues then living in this society will be a tough task. We have to change the society and the youth must be the change makers," he said.

Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader said, "Today's youth have to work towards building the country. They have to introspect as every word they speak and every action of theirs will reflect in the country's growth. Our Constitution gives us the right to live in harmony. It has taught us to uphold humanity. M Friends Trust has reached out to the needy through its programmes and truly done this."

On the occasion, two injured soldiers Hawaldar Sheshappa Gowda and Hawaldar Shrichandappa R S were honoured and the wives of martrys from Dakshina Kannada district Hawaldar (late) Chandrashekar from Bantwal and Hawaldar (late) Parameshwar from Puttur were also honoured for their bravery and service.

Hawaldar Shrichandappa R S expressed concern over the insecurity soldiers face after their term of service. "A soldier is solely responsible for his life and he does not have any other security. Like VIPs, even the soldiers are entitled to security. But the government do not provide security for their lives. I hope this situation will change in the future."

Treasurer of M Friends Trust Sujah Mohammed welcomed the gathering while Aboobakkar Vitla rendered the vote of thanks.

Chief secretary of M Friends Trust Rasheed Vitla rendered the keynote address.

programme to honour the families of martyrs and injured soldiers ....
What was the necessity to talk about corruption in this program.
The topic of corruption should not have been discussed.
Instead of that they could have discussed about some welfare programs for the families of martyrs and injured soldiers

Corruption is essentially a human character. Only humans among all living beings are corrupt. There is no such trait as corruption among animals.

"Contentment and Humanity" are two essential ingredients that are distinctly witnessed in the fast changing world of Mahabharatha. Growing affluence has become applicable to many in India due to growth in income and also growth in new economic opportunities within the fast changing society. Standard of living is changing amongst many, but there are equally as many people that are deprived of the new opportunities in the challenging yet vibrant society.

"Survival of the fittest" is totally visible in India when we visit India each year. We watch people near and dear to us minutely. While so many people are moving forward with prosperity, there are equally many that are left behind with lack of opportunity, and this is where the seed of "greed" and jealousy has blossomed, and everyone wants to make the "quick buck" howsoever possible.

Corruption in every corner of the society is quite visible wherever you go and whatever you do. People do not realize that daily life in America is more tougher than life in India. While the Oil prices have come down by 70 percent, India is the best winner because we have saved billions of dollars from the reduction of oil prices.

It is nice of Roshni Nilaya to host a gathering with various noble dignitaries such as Justice Santosh Hegde and voice the opinion on the changing trend in life all over India. Our joint pursuit therefore must continue at all levels and try to eradicate the disease of corruption. The task is uphill, but the task must continue at all levels of the society. India being a democratic country, and with ever growing population our pursuit for justice and equality added with fairness must remain as a forefront of our daily priority.

Democracy and freedom is the best trump card that India richly possesses, and the 67th Republic Day is the best day to voice our humble opinion, and rest the case in the hands of our noble people. Jai Hind.

Human being is a greedy and selfish animal with intelligence a very lethal combination. It goes completely out of control when it gets power and wealth especially in India where conditions and situations are very favorable.
