Karkala: Bike-car collision at Nitte - BE student from Punjab dies

Udupi, Jan 28: A young man was killed on the spot in a collision between a car and a bike at Nitte here on Thursday January 28.

Mohan Rajput (23) from Punjab is the person deceased. He was a final year student at Nitte Engineering College.

As per details, Rajput riding to the mess on Thursday afternoon, when a Maruti Omni which was travelling from Nitte towards Belman collided with Rajput's bike, killing him on the spot.

Rajput was a merit student. As per eyewitnesses, he was not wearing helmet.

The identity of the car driver is not yet known. He was travelling with his family and his wife has been admitted to a hospital.

Karkala rural police have registered a case.

Rajput's sister who stays in Davanagere has started for Manipal hospital where his body has been kept.

    When we travelled to Bandipur reserved forest, we found every 100 mtrs, a road humps was constructed, upon enquiry, we were told that since wild animals are crossing the road, these humps will protects them from accident.
    Hundred of students cross the NH 13 where renowed NITTE college was established. It is surprised to note that none of the parents, college managements including Govt authorities were not taken action for safety aspect here ( any many places like this)
    Mere wearing helmets does not save the lives nor reduce the accident. Time has come to judge the related to the cause of accident. Whenever accidents happens, the general tendencies is to blame on vehicles and forgetting the cause instead to make the PERSON accountable.
    Let us all act together and better late than never. Then only Mr. Mohans soul will rest in peace.

    I dont understand that why people are saying no to helmet. I dont say that if he would have wear helmet then he would be alive today. But at least for safer side we can wear it. I had seen yesterday that sad dark movement when his friends and family was crying like anything coz of unexpected death.

    A Strict action should be taken against the Car driver.. The Car driver should have been careful..cmon it's a road were college students usually cross ..How can some1 be so careless..We lost one of the best Youth.. I hope the Officials take a strict action and make sure that a divider is placed ..May his soul rest in peace.

    RIP. We spend thousands for our mobiles, bikes etc. but not in hundreds for a helmet. I agree a helmet only can not save life, but what is wrong if we wear it? Condolences for the bereaved family. May god give them strength to bear this irreparable loss.

    Pasubidri - Karkala road is technically unsound. This is a killer road . The builders of this road have not applied their mind into it.

    The road in front of the college is very dangerous, due to high speed moving vehicles.
    There is no speed breakers, only barricades which makes the vehicles swing and become more dangerous.
    Around 4000 students cross the road on daily basis involving engineering, diploma, degree and many schools in the same campus.
    Students experience a severe problem crossing the road not able to make right decisions due to fast moving vehicles.
    The next stop after Nitte which is manjarpalki with very less people has a divider and Nitte does not have one, is a serious question to be answered by road authorities.
    There have been many smaller accidents however this one has taken the life away.
    Before many more students become prey to this road i earnestly request concerned authority to wake up, construct divider and put speed restrictions in front of the college.

    People who drive on the wrong side of speed highways to save fuel time must be arrested with non bail able warrant because It is a kind of intentionally murder attempt. mostly seen in mlr udupi Highway. bloody b#st#rds can kill others for saving their time.. no discipline at all.. God knows when we ll b serious like middle east and western countries..!

    You can clearly see the car is on the wrong side. It seems like driver was trying to over take from behind.Biker should have had a helmet though! RIP the soul
