Now, get your passport issued in a week with just four documents

New Delhi, Jan 28 (HT): Indian citizens can receive their passport in a week’s time by submitting just four documents according to the changes announced by the government.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that a passport would be issued if an application is submitted with copies of the Aadhaar card, voter ID and PAN card, and an affidavit of no criminal case which includes family details and citizenship. Unlike earlier where police verification would cause the long delay in finally acquiring the passport, the new procedure will skip the process till after the passport is issued, provided the submitted documents are validated. However, the time taken to issue the document would depend on the approval from a granting officer.

Swaraj further added that an appointment can be chosen from the first five available dates for passport related services.

A statement issued by the ministry said no extra charges were applicable under the new procedure.

The MEA now allows applicants to book an appointment at their convenience and any date of choice from the earliest five working days for the selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). So far, the Passport Seva system fixed appointment based on availability and first-in-firstout (FIFO) principle.

Earlier, police verification for passport took 49 days, which was reduced to 42 in 2014, 34 in 2015, and 21 the same year. In 2015, the passport offices in India and the Indian missions and posts abroad rendered nearly 1.2 crore passport-related services. On December 31, 2015, nearly 6.33 crore Indians held valid passports.

I am just explaining here the practical side of the changed rules. I have read the govt notification. These rules are for fresh application and not for renewal. It is clearly mentioned that it is subject to online validation of Aaadhar, Election and Pan cards.
You may be aware that all people may not have all the three documents. This year they came up with a novel idea of Income Tax Return Verification, wherein one one has to validate Aaadhar with Income Tax website. Myself and my wife pay income tax, but my Aaadhar number is rejected by Income tax website, whereas her's accepted. There are innumerable spelling mistakes in names in Election card, which may not be accepted in validation with website. For voting, that card was accepted, but database does not show any leniency.

    Dear ABD, LOS ANGELES,

For what we have to feel jealous???!!!

You should have some shame on chaaiwaa's mountains of promises un-accomplished and all U-Turns.

He said Foreigners will be making Q on line to obtain India's visas if he is chosen.

Now you being a blind follower of him is making easier passports for Indians to get out of the country due to 5-6 children expected from Yogi Adithyanath.

Hence Indians will be making Ques to foreign embassies from the easier new passports to obtain foreign Visas under the Indian P.M. to A.M.,

Mr. Joseph its out of your reach? You can't understand .

It does not make any difference , others can understand better than you.

You have the silly mentality of always opposing the good move by the present Government. That's why people were struggling to get Passport for the last 60 years.

    Dear P. Shirish Kumar, Mangalore,

Is there any good move accomplished by the chaaiwaala other than world tours.

Yes. others can understand better but you never understand the ground realities. Stay in Sultanate of Oman. For renewal of Passport no problems.

Crude Oil is cheap in the international Market.

Domestically petrol prices are going on increasing relentlessly from cess tax to baseless taxes.

Domestically all the commodities prices are increased considerably.

Rupee value will not bother you because you will plenty in exchange rates from Omani Riyal to Indian rupees.
