Whoopi Goldberg to present award at Oscars

Los Angeles, Jan 29 (IANS): Actress Whoopi Goldberg will turn presenter at the forthcoming Academy Awards event, which is under the scanner for lack of diversity among the nominees.

While stars including Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett, and director Spike Lee have made the decision to boycott the Oscars, Goldberg admitted during an episode of her show “The View” that she will not be a part of the boycott, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“It's not that the problem is that the people who are nominated are too white. They're not looking at a movie and saying, 'Oh, that's very white. I'm not going to nominate that black movie.' They're not sitting there like that!" sher said.

"What the problem is, the people who can be helping to make movies that have blacks and Latinos and women and all that - that movie doesn't come to you. Because the idea is that there's no place for black movies,” the 60-year-old said.

Celebrities like Kevin Hart, Pharrell Williams, Tina Fey, Benicio Del Toro, Charlize Theron and The Weeknd will also take to the stage during the ceremony.

The 88th Academy Awards due to take place on February 28 will be hosted by Chris Rock.
