Mangaluru: Political influence behind selection of 20 Smart Cities: MLC Ivan

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jan 29: A day after the union minister for development Venkaiah Naidu released the first list of 20 Smart Cities, in which Mangaluru did not find a place, MLC Ivan D'Souza opined that 'political influence' was the reason behind Mangaluru missing out.

Addressing a press meet at his office here on Friday January 29, Ivan said, "It is a huge disappointment that Mangaluru has not made it to the first list of 20 Smart Cities. We had expected Mangaluru to get selected in the first phase. We had done a lot of ground work and prepared the proposal as per the prescribed guidelines.

"We welcome the inclusion of two cities in Karnataka - Davangere and Belagavi - in the Smart Cities list, but why is that Mangaluru was left out?

"I spoke to some people and technical experts, and they too questioned whether any injustice had been done to Mangaluru. I feel that political pressure has worked behind selection of the cities. Union miniser Siddheshwar is from Davangere and Suresh Angadi is a prominent MP from Belagavi and it may be possible that they may have influenced the decision," he opined.

"Mangaluru has good infrastructure and connectivity. We had submitted the proposal even before Davangere. The union ministry of urban development should come up with a white paper on where Mangaluru has failed and in which department," he demanded.

"The exclusion of Mangaluru has saddened me. If there has been any political pressure or influence in finalizing the 20 cities, the government should review the list and announce a new one," he added.

Mayor Jacintha Alfred, deputy mayor Purushottam Chitrapur and others were present.

With a sad heart i am stating this.

Outside People and government thinks that Mangalore is already an Over smart city, so no need of including in smart city project.

mangalore seems to be infested with local Pundas of all hues affiliated to all kinds of anti-national and anti-social fake organistions. Basically these are criminals either aiming at making easy money, seeking publicity for ego or both these objectives.

Added to this is the disproportionate number of our people in Bhoogatha loka.

Cutting trees near Valencia was the root cause for non-ion of Mangalore. You are not smart in laying concrete road beneath a water pipe line which is laid 30 years back. Regarding sewage pipes they are not there as the well water of entire Mangalore is polluted with drainage water. These shortcomings were discussed when I attended the ion process of smart cities in New Delhi. The only shortcoming was MCC was not smart. Unnecessary cutting of trees, laying concrete road on age old water and sewage pipe lines, no provision for parking, allowing an congress ex-mayor to keep his building on the road etc all made Mangalore U N S M A R T.

We don’t have the right leaders who can listen/respect the poor and intelligent/smart people of our own villages . When our leaders respect only influential people within the region , certainly same thought would come to their mind ,when Mangalore is not selected in the list of development of smart cities in India.

Let our present leaders who are elected in Mangalore to serve Mangalorean’s make some effort or influence at Bangalore and develop some good roads and good facility for Mangalorean. Sometimes I feel our leaders are only there to collect our money and to feed the people of Bangalore, not bringing back to develop our own city. We still have shortage of leaders who have the real heart for Mangalore and who can die for our city !!!

Everybody tells Mangaloreans are very smart in knowledge, education, business, traditional, customs, underworld, gambling, communalism etc., why need more developments again? With the reason of developments, road widening etc., all existing trees have been demolished is a sad part. So, again & again sad part is not tolerated. Let our Kudla be escape from further dust, hot, droughts, high cost of leaving etc. We are smart enough to make our city smart rather than others, what do you say?

2 opposit statement by 2 congress leader.
Comment 1. Mr. Ivan told Mangaluru: Political influence behind ion of 20 Smart Cities.
Comment 2: Mr. Sathish Jaraki Holi (incharge Ministed Belagavi)
There is no political influence in smart city ion.
Belagavi got ed due to development.

Either Mr. Ivan trying to transfer failure on Mr. Nalin Head or Mr. Sathish dont want to give credit to Mr. Suresh Angadi (Belgavi MP).

If success then because of development, If failure because of BJP.

This is just same as "make In India"
Mr. Rahul Vincy blamed Central govt. for unsuccessful of :Make In India" in Karnataka, Later CM praised himself for successful of "make In India" in Karnataka.

IRCON which started NH doubling was harassed by all Officials be it MESCOM, Water Supply, Telecom, Forest and many more such departments.

Outcome we still dont have a completed National Highway.

Be it shifting of Bus Stand, Modernization of Central Market,Public Toilets, Passenger Stand for Public Transport which common man wants, is missing.

These are the basics which can happen without central funds.

When the decision of the "Smart City" shortlisting took place, and when Mangalore was not amongst the "first twenty" Cities, there is every reason to get disappointed and come to several conclusions. All said and done, this is not the end of the tunnel, but there is lot more to be accomplished in the years ahead.

If any other City less deserving than Mangalore then we have every opportunity to offer those Cities our support thru our expertise and knowledge. Our City can always serve as a "support expertise" by providing our human resources and earn a mutual benefit.

"Smart City" concept is the first of its kind in India, and we could learn many things from others by watching them and providing them our consultancy services so that they do not have to go elsewhere for their initial support.

This is how "Sister City" relations are created by displaying our list of specialties so that they do not have to invest their money to educate their own population, but seek the required guidance and help to fulfill our short term and long term objectives.

The ultimate result of the "Smart City" concept is to learn from each other and benefit from one another, and get prepared for a bright future that will help each State. Distribution of "Human Resources" is the best gift that a "Smart City" can get with the help of many states that have abundance of specialized personnel to perform the job.

"Smart City" concept is not creating parks and swimming pools, but providing the wide spectrum of Industrial, Economical and Technological advanced concepts that will spread all over the land, far and beyond our own boundary.

Mangalore should be proud of it's own accomplishments. In the long run, "Smart Cities" may not be so smart. It takes more than money to develop a great city. Mangalore is in a unique position for future prosperity based on it's own qualifications. It's location in the middle of the subcontinent and on the ocean makes it very attractive for economic development. Air quality and relatively clean water sources contribute to a higher quality of life than elsewhere. It's isolation from the interior population centers would tend to prevent immigration and overpopulation.

Smart city concept nothing but systematic plan to loot swindle, land grab(the main aim) and only to give benefit to industrial houses. To develop any area no need to give elusive titles such as "smart city". Evidence in front of the nation how swatch Bharat going into the drains. Make in India is on the wheel chair. Good question Dear Mr. Jossey.
u lost a chance to blame central govt just because no city in UP and Bengal included in first list of "Smart City"
If included you will have a golden opportunity to blame because of upcoming election they included.
I hope you are well aware that "Smart City is not awarded as per Area of State, Election or some thing else as you are thinking.

As there is more than 20 States in India and it was cleared since beginning at least 9 states will not get chance in 1st list.
    But you never ask why.
You were waiting for opportunity to blame after first list s out.
