Mangaluru, Jan 30: Relating to a theft which had taken place on the night of November 23 last year at Our Lady of Mercy church at Fajir within Konaje police station limits here, police personnel have succeeded in arresting the main accused on Thursday January 28.

The arrested accused is Sahul Hameed from Rajagudde in Harekala village.

A gang of thieves had entered the church at Fajir, and fled after stealing holy sacrament, laptops, utensils and other items. The scene of theft was captured by CCTV cameras. Konaje police had in later days, succeeded in arresting some accused persons and recovering stolen items from their possession. But main accused, Sahul Hameed, had remained elusive.

The policemen say that Sahul also was involved with theft at a shop dealing in cellphone and a fancy shop at Deralakatte. The policemen had made elaborate plans to arrest him. On Thursday, a team led by Konaje police inspector, Ashok, and police sub-inspector, Sudhakar, succeeded in taking him into custody. He was produced in court thereafter.

This is a theft and not an attack. There is a forgiveness for theft but not for the attacks. Everyone knows who attacked the churches that also serial attacks.

Situations such as what occurred at Fajir Church are sad and emotional. They should never take place in a peace loving country such as India. But when such sad things occur we need to handle it very delicately and show others the depth and value of our Christian faith, and our power of tolerance and forgiveness. Let the Law take care of the culprits.

We still remember the sad incident because we were in Mangalore that day, and in fact we were paying our respects to Bishop Aloysius by visiting him at the Bishops House that very morning. We admired his coolness in the sad incident. Prayer and perseverance was visible in his display of calmness in handling the affairs in the way God has destined us in this "Small world - a beautiful world". Love and patience is part of God's message. While we accept all the daily calamities, we must politely bring to the attention of all our beloved leaders that we cherish all the patience and perseverance but we solicit their support and appropriate actions in order to remedy the situation.

That's the best way to tackle the sad episodes of life.

Appreciate your comment. However, the bishops coolness is not something we can be proud of or can be a subject of praise. Remember, the funds are not that of his hard earned money. So, I am sure he will be least affected .

Instead of putting him behind the bar, let the concerned authorities find out what led him to commit such thefts. What is his qualification and who are his teachers, and which school he has studied. His family back ground.
If we can help to find out the real causes, and act against those causes, surely these untold thefts would disappear.
This guy should be made to be a model for others.

..if there is election nearer by this time whole incident would have taken a communal turn like DELHI..RAHUL would have did padyatra and no one would have arrested..look at KALBURGI case..so many other cases solved, CID behind swamy rape case since 2 years, but why no urgency to solve KALBURGI case!..reason is just to expolit so called Intellectuals/writers..if case solves immediately Congress cant use it as tool..as far case is unsolved, you can keep on bashing RSS/BJP/MODI..No one know who killed KALBURGI but writers/scholars from day one targets RSS/BJP/MODI!!..RAHUL in Hyderabad since there is municipal election, he is not bothered for 3 suicides in TN since there is no election..
