Udupi: Foundation stone laid for comprehensive renovation of Hiriadka temple

Udupi, Jan 30: A programme of laying foundation stone preceded by Shila Puja and Purassara Shila Muhurta was organized at Hiriadka near here on Friday January 29 by Hiriadka Lord Veerabhadra Swamy temple Renovation Committee. The programme signalled the beginning of integrated renovation works of this ancient temple. The programme, which also included a grand procession, was conducted under the guidance of celebrants, B Laxminarayana Tantry and B Gururaja Tantry.

The religious meeting held thereafter was presided over by veteran litterateur, Erya Laxminarayana Alva. Addressing the gathering, Alva said that there are only a handful of 'Mahatobhara' temples which can equal the eminence of Lord Veerabhadra Swamy temple, which is backed by ancient, folklore, and vedic traditions. "Hiriadka leads among the list of temples where Siri is worshipped in Kannada. It gives immense satisfaction to note that this temple which has a grand history and great tradition, is being renovated comprehensively," he stated.'

Udupi district in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, released the petition for the renovation costing about Rs 12 crore. The blue print of the temple was released by president of Buntara Matru Sangha, Ajit Kumar Rai Malady.

Entrepreneur, B Sarvotham Pai, administrative officer of the temple, Krishnamurty, president of renovation committee, Govardhanadas Hegde, B Laxminarayana Tantry, Ranganath Adiga, and several other dignitaries were present.

Kudi Vasant Shetty delivered introductory address. Amarnath Shetty welcomed. Santosh Shetty presented the programme. Harshavardhan Hegde proposed vote of thanks.

Religious rituals like Dwadasha Nalikera Ganayaaga, Shatarudrabhisheka, singing of Bhajans, Parivara Puja, Maha Puja etc were performed in the morning as ordained in religious scriptures.
