Mangaluru, Jan 31: “The foundation laying ceremony for the White Doves Psychiatric Nursing and Destitute Home at Maroli will be held on Tuesday, February 2 at 9.00 am,” said secretary and treasurer of White Doves, Jerome Coelho.
Addressing the press meet here at press club on Saturday, January 30, Jerome Coelho said "The White Doves has envisaged to build a-200 bed facility home with the help of generous donors and well-wishers. There shall be separate wards for male and female inmates with a well equipped medical facility for doctors to treat the inmates. The-24 hour-service, a counselling room, a recreation room with indoor recreation facilities, a clean and hygienic kitchen and dining room are the other facilities that shall be available to the beneficiaries. The foundation laying ceremony for the White Doves Psychiatric Nursing and Destitute Home shall be held on Tuesday, February 2 at 9.00 am. White Doves Home Day will also be held on February 3 at 6.30 pm at the Matadakani Home.”
“The selfless service to the abandoned, picked up from the streets of Mangaluru and its surrounding areas by the White Doves for the past 21 years, has sustained only due to the vision and mission of Corrine Rasquinha, its founder president. The White Doves homes at Matadakani and Jail Road have been leased out free of charge by large hearted people who wanted to complement the charitable works rendered to the abandoned, mentally challenged, girls and females living endangered lives on the streets and many more. The beneficiaries are fed, provided a roof to live and medically attended to for their various ailments and medical conditions. More than 80 inmates have been repatriated to their families and loved ones the joy of which is a sight to behold. The White Doves, for the past 17 years, has also been distributing more than 125 packets of cooked food at its facilities to the hungry who are living on the streets.”
“The other works of mercy that the White Doves has got itself involved in the past years have been building and renovation of houses for eight poor families, education for needy students, monthly ration supplies to poor families, medical support to poor patients. It has always been the dream of White Doves to have a place of its own to house those under its care and also be able to provide succour to needy. The dearth of land was nullified when his lordship, The Bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Aloysius Paul D'souza generously leased out 49 cents land at Maroli for the setting up of the White Doves Psychiatric Nursing and Destitute Home,” he added.
Founder president of White Doves, Corrine Rasquinha, said, “The new Psychiatric Nursing and Destitute Home is expected to be completed in two years. This new building would cost about Rs 7.5 crore. Few donors have come forward. We urge more donors to come forward with liberal donations to support us in this noble cause.”
