Mangaluru: 'Aaharotsava' marks culmination of KACES 'Saamarasya'

Mangaluru, Jan 31: The two-day food and cultural festival for peace 'Saamarasya-2016' organized by the Karnataka Christian Educational Society (KACES) culuminated with the food festival 'Aaharotsava' at KACES ground, Balmatta here Saturday January 30 evening.

Retired bishop Rev C L Furtado inaugurated the valedictory programme and the food festival by cutting the cake and distributing it to the guests.

The programme was presided over by Rev Dr Honey Cabral, principal, Karnataka Theosophical Society, and secretary, KACES, while member of Tulu Sahitya Academy D Vedavathi, Dekan Bernd Liebendoerfer of Ecumenical Pastors and Pastors Help, Germany, Rev Paul Brauchle, board member, Pfarrerinnen, Germany and Rev Dr Packiam Samuel, secretary/ treausurer, Interfaith Coalation for peace and director, HMI were the guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion Dekan Bernd Liebendoerfer said, "India has a large variety of food which is amazing. In any culture or religion if you share a meal then it is a symbol of communion. Jesus himself practised this by sitting down at the table of the poor. I congratulate the organisers on the unique idea."

Speaking on the occasion the member of Tulu Sahitya Academy D Vedavathi said, "With time, even our food system has changed. There used tobe untouchability in food, as the food that the rich ate was not served to the poor and people of some castes. Now there is equality in food and the food system. Everyone prepares one's food with utmost care.

"People of Mangaluru are known for their hospitality. Wherever they go, they start a hotel of theirs and spread the culture. I call upon everyone to spread harmony through this food festival," she added.

Rev Dr Honey Cabral in his presidential address thanked all who toiled for the success of 'Saamarasya-2016'. "We Mangalureans are known for our hospitality. This event tasted success only after people came here. Many have extended their helping hand behind the scenes. I call upon everyone to enjoy the food," he said.

Christine, wife of Dekan Bernd Liebendoerfer of Ecumenical Pastors and Pastors Help, Germany, convener of 'Saamarasya 2016' Rev Immanuel R Punith, treasurer of KACES Rev Dr F Anilkumar and others were present. 

Riyana Puneeth welcomed the gathering while Rev K Sagar Sundar Raj thanked all.

Eva Sampriya and Kaushik Ammanna compered the programme.
