Rasam becomes reason for cancellation of marriage, new groom saves face

Daijiworld Media Network - Tumakuru (SP)

Tumakuru, Feb 1: A marriage function was abruptly stopped and the alliance was broken by the bridegroom concerned after he grew angry at the fact that Rasam was not among the items served to his people at the function. The two-day marriage function, which was spread over Saturday and Sunday, and was in progress at Kunigal in the district, had to be abandoned as the groom refused to tie the customary 'Taali' around the bride's neck in acknowledgement of having accepted her as his life partner.

As a relative of the bride volunteered to marry the girl, her parents gave their daughter in marriage to this boy. In the meanwhile, a complaint stands registered in the police station at Kunigal against the groom.

The marriage of K P Soumya, daughter of Saubhagyamma and Prakash, residents of Siddhartha Nagar in Kunigal, was to be solemnized with Raju, son of Gowramma and Timmaiah couple from Swatantrapalya near Srirampuram Bengaluru. The marriage function began on Saturday and a number of rituals had been successfully completed. At 7 pm on Saturday, reception was scheduled, but the groom and his relatives had not arrived at the hall till 9 pm. After several phone calls were made, the groom's party arrived at the marriage hall at 9.30 pm, after which the function went on till 11.30 pm.

At about 12.30 am that night, mother of the groom and her daughters sat down for the reception feast. When they demanded for Rasam in between, the cooks said that Rasam had been exhausted as already it was too late. Gowramma and her daughters then fought with the cooks, after which the bride's parents intervened and succeeded in pacifying Gowramma. They promised to get Rasam prepared for Sunday breakfast.

Gowramma however, stuck with her demand for Rasam, and threatened to go back with the groom if Rasam was not served immediately. Parents of the bride, developing cold feet, sought police intervention. Policemen arrived there and advised Gowramma and her family to use common sense and not to spoil marriage for petty reasons. After the police went back, the groom's side refused to take part in further rituals. The groom also said he would not marry the girl, as his parents were not served Rasam. At around 6 am on Sunday, he exited from the marriage venue.

Parents of the bride and other relatives began to shed copious tears at this unexpected turn of events. Govindaraju from Maddur, a relative of the bride, who had come to attend the marriage, came forward to marry the girl. The relatives immediately made arrangements for his marriage with the bride. They have urged the police to take action against Raju and his parents for entering into alliance, agreeing for the marriage, and then backtracking at the last minute for silly reason.

Next time ask the bride's family to prepare a pool of rasam and let them have a dip, bath or swim in the hot and spicy rasam pool as they please.

Well, I would look at this in a different way. "Rasam Saved The Day"

Look at how sick some can get, it was a boon or god's message to save the bride from being a part of the wrong family. well done Mr. Govindaraju who took a bold step in marrying the bride.

@survarna , karkala . That's what matters , swimming against the tide and not having sheep mentality . People here are still stuck up with 60's ' women tho Holy' mindset . Things have changed , and this girl was not having Patriarchy PAKODE . Actually the groom dodged the false 498A landmine and saved himself . Female dowry. ie Alimony is equally wrong , the guy is relieved here from such vociferous wives .All I can wish is good luck for his future .

Stupid and idiot man. May be some other reason behind this. May be the anticipated dowry has not been paid by brides parents. This is silly reason. Nobody should give him a girl in future.

@Gaurau,Udipi,whether it is or stepmother, the reasons they all gave and not continuing marriage ceremony matters.such a petty reason. As though they are going to take bath with Rasam.I think the Girl has luck.who knows after the marraige ,if taken place, they would have made nasty remarks and ragged her including bridegroom and make the bride mad.Wish you all the best newly weds.Thank you Boy ,you saved her dignity and from bad comments from lokals.

If the boy comes to know about girls past ' adventures' and calls off wedding , then malign him with rasam . The biased media was silent when girl bullied and ditched groom so many occasions , it was hailed as , ' girls right ' , ' you go girl ' blah blah . Now if a boy does that , its criminal ! . What a travesty !!

Exactly as pointed byJaimini..Rasam saved the Girl..Need to publish the news in all local news and print media if possible with the Boys family snap..Shame on them to have played with the life of the poor girl.
The boy who agreed at the last minute is a good thing..However was the girls whole hearted consent there and the guy needs to be of good nature. Else pressure of the last minute would have been the reason for the wedding.

Silly minded person who dwells under the influence of the parents and dances according to their tune. He seems to be more happy with Rassam than in the company of his (supposed to be) life partner.
One who volunteered to marry the bride is a real Hero.

Publish this news in as many news papers as possible so that the family of the groom gets so infamous that nobody will be ready to give their daughter in marriage to this man or their other sons !

Should have some regard to how much troubles and toiling the girls' side undergoes to pacify a party to agree marry their daughters.

May God bless the man who came as a saviour to marry the bride - wishes for a happy married life to them.
