Puttur, Feb 1: In a tragic accident which occurred at Bollar within Nekkilady gram panchayat limits near Uppinangady on Sunday January 31, a youth lost his life due to drowning.

Chandrashekhar (22), son of Hariyappa Naik from Arla in Nelyady lost his life in this accident. On Saturday evening, Chandrashekhar was on a routine visit to the house of his maternal uncle, Balappa at Bollar. On Sunday morning, he went to the river flowing nearby to have bath. However, he was washed away due to water current.

Chandrashekhar was the only son of his parents. His family has been living in abject poverty. Hariyappa, who was supporting the family by working as coolie in the past, has of late not been able to work because of ill health. Chandrashekhar therefore, had taken up work as truck driver, and was the sole breadwinner for his family.

A case of natural death was registered in Uppinangady police station about this incident.
