Mangaluru, Feb 1: On a day when helmet was made compulsory for pillion riders, an accident almost took away the life of a youngster who was allegedly holding the helmet in his hand instead of wearing it while riding.

The accident occured between a bike and a Eco Sport car near Padua school grounds here on Monday February 1.

Harshith (18), a resident of Yeyyadi, was severely injured in the accident.

Eyewitnesses said that both Harshith and the car driver were speeding, and both lost control and collided with each other.

Police sources said that Harshith, instead of wearing his helmet, was holding it in his hand and riding. According to eyewitnesses, the accident could have been avoidable had Harshith moved to the other side and injuries would have been lesser in degree if he had worn the helmet.

Harshith has been admitted to a private hospital in the city and his condition is said to be serious.

Kadri traffic police have registered a case.

Hope the injured rider recovers fast, from his injuries.

Hope he will realise that God has given him a second life and motivates other 2-wheeler riders to always ride with helmet worn over the head, duly strapped.

It is better to lose a little hair than to lose one's head, or suffer severe head injuries.

"Eyewitnesses said that both Harshith and the car driver were speeding"
Main reason is reckless and high speed riding/driving
Wear the helmet to minimize major injury to the head/face and save your life. Youngsters please do not drive and make stunts in from of Girls College or where girls are gathered to win their heart or to attract public admiration. Slow & steady wins.

This is the fate of bike riders who dont wear helmets and keep the helmet in hand instead wearing it. Many are doing like this which police have to book cases. This type of fashion is there for the last many years. Curb it.

Helmets for bike riders and pillion riders came into effect for the safety of the riders. Many lives have been lost and many suffered permanent disability due to bike accidents. I hope Harshith will recover from his injuries. MY ADVICE IS ALWAYS AND ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND LIFE.

I rode bike during 1981 till 1991. But wore helmet always. It is not necessary someone to impose on us by law, It is our own safety. I think police must allow the people to decide their own safety. If someone decides not to wear a helmet and die ..let him. It may help to reduce our population and also to increase revenue of the hospitals...!!!???

Now a days after helmet for both the rider and pillion rider is made compulsory, lots of watsapp messages are doing the rounds making fun of the rule. People do not understand the importance of wearing helmet. It is a common rule in all the countries around the world. Only in India people oppose!

Disadvantages of Helmets are as follows:
1.prevents head injuries and deaths due to accidents attributed to one FATE. One cannot go against fate and therefore wearing helmets may not be necessary.

2.helmets do not allow the processor inside ( read brain) to cool down. Therefore the heat built within can cause damage to the processor as well as the external beauty of the head and its associated components( hair follicles scalp).

    3. Helmets cause irritation over already stressed bike rider : stress at work, stress at home stress at road( read potholes , dangerous traffic etc etc).

FYI: my comments were written with sarcasm. I was voicing most prevalent excuses or self justification for reluctance to wear helmets. I am a strong advocate for PROTECTION !

His parents should have given 25 lakhs bikr instead of 3 lakh bike. He would have reached early. This is an eye opener to all those parents who show the power of money with expensive things. Think before giving...think whether its necessary. This is how you buy death .

sad that bike rider is injured seriously. Some People never learn.Think Helmet is only when Police is in visier.Speeding is another Problem like racing.Really bikers and motorists ,when you want to come home safe, leave the vehicles at home and go by bus or Rickshaw.Otherwise drive safe and follow rules, they are for you too ,not only for others.
