Mangaluru, Feb 1: On a day when helmet was made compulsory for pillion riders, an accident almost took away the life of a youngster who was allegedly holding the helmet in his hand instead of wearing it while riding.
The accident occured between a bike and a Eco Sport car near Padua school grounds here on Monday February 1.
Harshith (18), a resident of Yeyyadi, was severely injured in the accident.
Eyewitnesses said that both Harshith and the car driver were speeding, and both lost control and collided with each other.
Police sources said that Harshith, instead of wearing his helmet, was holding it in his hand and riding. According to eyewitnesses, the accident could have been avoidable had Harshith moved to the other side and injuries would have been lesser in degree if he had worn the helmet.
Harshith has been admitted to a private hospital in the city and his condition is said to be serious.
Kadri traffic police have registered a case.
