Tumakuru, Feb 3: In a strange incident reported from T L Palya near Goragondanahalli in Tipatur taluk of the district on Tuesday February 2, a couple lost its life, while its 18-month-old child lived on.

Umesh (30), a local, and his wife, Kavya (24), died in this incident. It is said that Umesh and Kavya, who married three years back, had chronic family differences. Fed up by never ending spate of quarrels, Umesh, it is said, had drawn out a plan to kill his wife and son.

On Tuesday, he asked his wife to accompany him to a nearby temple. With his wife in the pillion, he drove his motor bike on the temple road but suddenly turned his motor bike into a water-filled pit opposite the local pool. When the bike nosedived into the pit, 18-month-old Harshvardhan slipped out of the vehicle and fell on the edge of the pit. A woman who was washing clothes nearby rushed there and rescued the child.

As Kavya did not drown because of shallow water at the edge that was not deep enough, Umesh forcibly dragged his wife to further depths of ten feet and tried to hold her firmly inside water. Kavya struggled to save herself, and held on tightly to Umesh. As such, Umesh too drowned in the pit and lost his life along with Kavya, it is gathered.
