Hospital bus hits minister's escort vehicle - two police die

Davanagere, Feb 4: In an accident involving a mini bus of Sankara Eye Hospital Shivamogga and an escort vehicle of state labour mihnister, P T Parameshwar Naik, two police personnel died on the spot. The accident occurred on Wednesday February 3 afternoon.

The deceased policemen are Venkatesh (58), an assistant sub-inspector, and driver-constable, Nagaraj Singh (45). The accident occurred at Shrungarathota village when the entourage of the minister was moving to Harapanahalli from Hoovinahadagalai in Ballari district via Kanivihalli.

Both the deceased policemen were attached to Ballari district armed reserve police force. They were deployed as security escort for the minister. Policemen reached the spot within a few minutes of the accident.

Ballari district superintendent of police, Chetan, Davanagere superintendent of police, Bhimashankar Guledgudd, and several senior officers rushed to the spot. The escort vehicle had got centrally locked. Therefore, a hoe was used to break the door and bring out the bodies of deceased policemen. They were then shifted to a private hospital in Harapanahalli.

The vehicle of the eye hospital was moving to Hagaribommanahalli in Ballari district to drop off a senior citizen who was under treatment for eyesight-related complications. Six persons were injured in the accident.
