Bengaluru, Feb 4: After dilly-dallying in the matter of sanctioning land for setting up LPG cylinders godown in Saligrama town in Udupi district to the wife of a slain soldier, the government, top officials of which came under severe criticism during the trial, finally announced that it has granted 29 cents of land to Bhojamma, wife of slain soldier, Chinnappa, who was killed during anti-Veerappan operations.
The high court had repeatedly pulled up various officials for their lethargy in disposing off the woman's application during the hearings, and had ordered personal appearance of top officials including the state chief secretary because of lapses observed.
Bhojamma, who was granted a gas agency in Saligrama, has constructed a LPG godown in residential area. When additional advocate general, A S Ponnanna, argued in the court that this godown cannot be allowed to continue, the single judge bench of the high court asked the deputy controller of explosives at Mangaluru to issue temporary no-objection certificate for this godown for a period of four months as the lady does not have any other income source at present.
Udupi district deputy commissioner, R Vishal, promised to secure bank loan to Bhojamma if she provides suitable papers. The bench asked the deputy commissioner to arrange for loan within three weeks, and gave deadline of September 30, 2016, for completion of godown construction.
As per the orders of the high court, deputy commissioner of Udupi district, chief executive officers of chief fire and explosives division, chief executive officer of Saligrama town panchayat, and Udupi district fire officer, were present in the court. Although the personal appearance of the state chief secretary had also been mandated, the public prosecutor pleaded to waive the condition, as he is busy with Invest Karnataka programme.The bench accepted this argument.
The high court adjourned hearing of the case to April 27,duly ordering that progress report on construction of godown should be submitted then. Advocate, Pavanchandra Shetty, placed arguments on behalf of the petitioner.
