Mangalore, Sep 12: Though recent reports reaching here said that tsunami alert had been withdrawn, weather has suddenly changed in the city.  It has been raining cats and dogs for the last one and half hours.  Brisk showers coupled with thunder and lightning may not have to do anything with tsunami, the sudden change in the weather has surely caught many by surprise.  There are no indications of rains receeding as of now.

Mangalore, Sep 12: ZP CEO Kunjappa called for an emergency meeting in his office on Wednesday September 12 night.

The meeting was called after receiving alert about possibilities of Tsunami hit to the coastal regions of state owing to a powerful earthquake that rocked Indonesia on Wednesday September 12.



Addressing the meeting Prabhakar Sharma, headquarters assistant said that as such there is no news about the possibilities of Tsunami hit. But the officials have been informed to be alert 24 hours, he said.

In places like Ullal, Panambur, Someshwar, the rescue team has been deployed to face any eventuality. Fishermen are informed not to go for fishing for the few hours, he added.

Additional Superintend of Police Lokesh Kumar and other officials were present at the meeting.






On the other hand, the port officials have opined that, in case of Tsunami, it will hit the eastern coast first. Later it will affect the west coast. Nevertheless it will take a minimum of 6 hours to hit west coast, after it hits eastern coast. Hence, the people of west coast need not worry, they assured.
