Kasargod, Feb 6: A CPM leader, who was caught on camera when he was trying to steal things at a house at Trikkaripura near here, owned by a person working in the Gulf, stands arrested by the police. He has been identified as C Raghavan (53).

After the CCTV footage in the above house showed clear image of Raghavan indulging in theft, he had hid himself in a secluded spot at Valiyaparamba. After they got information about Raghavan's hideout, the policemen raided the spot and arrested him. The raiding police team was led by Nileshwar police circle inspector, Premarajan.

Raghavan had tried to burgle a house owned by M K Younus, working in in the Gulf region. The policemen came to know the wrongdoings of this CPM activist, who has since been ousted from the party, after watching the CCTV footage.

The CPM had dismissed Raghavan, who had spearheaded several agitations in the past, immediately after his misdeed came to light. He was arrested on Friday night, and police personnel have been questioning him about his involvement with other thefts in the past. During the questioning, it is said, he confessed to his involvement with a number of theft cases.

The police said that as per their information so far, he was involved with six cases of theft including the theft of 14 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the house of Abdulla at Mettammal, Trikkaripura, on May 13, 2015. They hope to collect more information from him during the course of intensive questioning.
