Bengaluru: Tanzanian woman assault case - Senior police official suspended

Bengaluru, Feb 6 (PTI): The Karnataka government has suspended another senior police official in connection with the alleged assault and stripping of a Tanzanian woman student here, even as African students staged a rally over the incident today.

Assistant Commissioner of Police A N Pise of Yeshwanthpur Division has been suspended for dereliction of duty, Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said, a day after a team of Tanzanian High Commissioner John W H Kijazi, also the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, and External Affairs Ministry officials flew in here and met state officials and African students.

With this, six policemen-an ACP, an Inspector and four constables-- have been suspended, Megharikh said.

On a mission to get a first hand account and build confidence among African students here, the Tanzanian envoy had backed the steps taken by the government in connection with the incident on Sunday.

"We are very much impressed with the action already taken," Kijazi had said, dismissing the talk about racism.

Nine persons have been arrested in connection with the incident in which the 21-year old Tanzanian student faced mob fury in vigilante justice after a Sudanese driving a car in an alleged drunken state struck a couple, killing a woman on the spot.

Police have maintained it was a case of "mistaken identity" and racism was not involved.

Meanwhile, the African students in Bengaluru are planning to conduct a blood donation drive in a show of solidarity to their Indian counterparts and citizens.

"The Same Blood Campaign" is an initiative of FISAB (Federation of International Students Association Bangalore) and Just Practicals - a skill development start-up offering practical, job-relevant training in technical and management courses to African and international students in Bangalore.

FISAB is a confluence of international students from 42 countries, who are currently pursuing academic and research disciplines in and around Bengaluru.

The event, planned in March is aimed at sensitizing the local populace to African students and to drive a sense of harmony and togetherness, 'Just Practicals" said in a statement.

A rally attended by over two hundred African students at Town Hall in the nucleus of the city here saw expressions of grief mixed with a call for togetherness and inclusion.

Prince Nkita, a student from the Republic of Congo studying here said, "People need to understand the differences and the similarities as it is the same blood and the same race that is donating this blood."

Doctor. Very surprising comments from you. There are millions of Indians who stay around the globe including African countries. You yourself are staying in Malaysia. What if the same attitude is shown against Indians in these countries. There are criminals in all countries who might have got into India they have to be dealt with. But please don't generalize.

If the English Media is having so much concern for these Drug peddlers and Cyber Criminals of Africa then let them shift these people to their own Cities like Mumbai & Delhi and help them to peddle drugs and engage in Cyber Crimes in those cities.
Why the same English media did not call Goans as racist when the people of Goa kicked out Nigerians from Goan soil couple of years back when Parrikar was CM of Goa?
Even in Manipal the most of drug abusers are African students.

Why many African people are allowed to stay in Karnataka illegally without any visa etc. Govt. should take suitable action against them who are trouble mongers and also involved in many sorts of criminal activities.

Karnataka Govt has forwarded to Central Govt the details of 850 Nigerians whose Visa have expired one year back. But Sushma Swaraj has not taken any Step to deport all such Nigerians, majority of whom are engaged in Drug peddling or Cyber Crime. Karnataka Police have no jurisdiction over such foreign nationals.
Since the next leg of foreign tour of Moodi is scheduled to African Countries including Nigeria and Tanzania. So foreign minister Sushma do not want to put Modi in embarrassing position in front of African Media by deporting those 850 Nigerians of Bengaluru.

Most important point is that Modi's Chelas like Ambani & Adani have huge investments in Nigeria and other African countries, and Modi Govt wants to see that investments of Ambani Adani are safe in Africa. That is why Modi & Shah do not want to annoy African countries by deporting the Visa-expired Africans.

If there are Drugs, Immigration violations - this is direct indictment of Police force.
    1. If the law enforcement cannot handle the enforcement and compliance among these then - the central government- issue of visa should be restricted.
    2. It is incorrect to blame the entire student group : this is tantamount to stereo typing and is a form of racism.
    3. Blood donations have to comply with regulations: anyone who has traveled within 2 years cannot give blood. Especially if they are visiting from disease endemic areas.

It is incorrect to say that Africans cannot donate blood. All blood is tested. If the regulations are not up-to date then upgrade them to follow WHO guidelines.

Suggesting that dark skinned people should not donate blood( bad blood) is another form of racism.

We all are human beings with prejudices and biases. But we learn to overcome them via acknowledging them. Denial does not help. Denial of intolerance is fresh still .

Just couple of years back the local people of Goa rose unitedly and kicked out Nigerians from Goa. At that time BJP party was ruling Goa and thousands of Nigerians were assaulted and drove away from Goa, but then no English Media called Goans as racist.
Then why now Karnataka people are being branded as racist by English Media?. But atleast Kannada media is doing right thing by supporting Kannadigas and exposing the misdeeds of African students engaged in Drug abuse and also Cyber Crime.

It is unfortunate that a girl student was beaten in a mistaken identity. But one thing is sure some the of people african nations are notorious for criminal activities, drug peddling and some other anti social activities. There was riot in Goa few years back between locals and Africans. Strict vigilance has to be kept on these people and also actions should be taken if locals misbehave with them.
