Mangaluru, Feb 6: The two-day mega national convention of Bunt community, organized under the aegis of International Bunts Welfare Trust, was inaugurated by Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade at Town Hall here on Saturday February 6.

The Bunt community has also inherited leadership quality and contributed to all the fields, be it social, business, politics or religion. The women in the community are also forward.

"The community has come so far because it has followed the motto 'whatever we do, we should succeed'. Even if you see history, people from this community sacrificed themselves for great causes and led from the front. There are people from this community wherever you go. "People from Bunt community pay special attention to preserving art, culture and religion. The future generation should carry this quality forward. Community leaders should guide their youth in giving importance to the fields of agriculture, art and culture. This is a community which has concentrated on agriculture out of its love for the soil. In the coming days, the community should give more importance to health and education sectors. The problem of dowry in the community has reduced and social change has taken place. Though the younger generation is westernizes in appearance, they should be traditional in approach and give importance to agriculture and activities that help in preserving the culture of this land," he advised.

Nice procession. However, to make it more authentic, it could have been made better if it was done in the traditional way of 'maari derunu'.

I still remember a word from a very close friend (now) and a fellow bunt who was a director of the company and a stalwart in Seafood exports industry. I went to ask for job in 1993 who declined to give me a job but, he said you are a bunt and you will do well. Now we are competing exporters and when we sit together and I recollect his word. It is in our blood as bunt to work hard and protect our dependents. Be it in family or friends . We are not money hoarders and do not shy away from responsibilities even if we have to keep our life at stake. A true bunt will never kick anyone's feet and leads in his own command. Born leader always builds his own pride. Even though I have lots of reservations on certain practices within us ... But, I feel there is a but if proudness in every bunt and there lies a confidence in him that he can do it . Congratulations to all my fellow bunts on this occasion and also my salutes to all citizens of our beautiful coastal Karnataka from all community.
