DC warns officials escaping election duty of disciplinary action

Mangaluru, Feb 9: Deputy commissioner(DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, A B Ibrahim, stressed that officials deputed on election duty for the coming zilla and taluk panchayat elections will not get any exemption from attending to their duties. He warned them of disciplinary action if they still choose to stay away from discharing their election duties.

He was addressing a meeting of officials held at the auditorium of his office on Monday February 8 over arrangements made for the elections.

"We have been getting requests from a large number employees seeking to exclude themselves from deployment on election duty. Many have approached us for exempting them, without any genuine reasons, and applications on health grounds not supported by medical certificates have been submitted. If any of the employees have genuine medical conditions which thwart them from doing work during election, they should approach my office personally and hand over the requests supported by documents. If employees posted to election duty try to dither from discharging duties by putting forth lame reasons, they will face disciplinary action," he stated.

The DC also expressed his unhappiness over the tahsildars who have received such requests from employees. He instructed them not to receive such requests under any circumstances henceforth.

Ibrahim informed that training has been scheduled for election sector officials on February 11 and booth officials on February 13. He added that video recording will be done in 25 percent of polling booths, and indelible ink will be applied to the right thumbs of voters.

Its Good Moove. But as Everyone says there is lack facilities and upon closure of Duty Hours ladies specially the one who is in charge (Duty Officer)has to report to the office to return the Sealed Ballot Boxes at Taluk office which is only after 05 pm hours , and while they reach it will be around 08pm hours depends on the distance. There will be huge Rush for Depositing such Boxes and no official transport exisits lady officers to reach home safely.
This needs to be taken care by the Concerned officials and DC.
Respected DC-Pelase take a note of it.

Because of the elections the DC has ordered that all licenced guns should be deposited in the Police stations. But the Police stations are not accepting the weapon and direct the licencee to deposit the guns with an arms dealer. The arms dealers are charging Rs 750 per gun.

What is the actual rule ? Is there a private deal between the Police and the Arms dealer ?

According to an earlier judgement of the Bombay High Court a licencee need not deposit the gun in the Police Station nor an Arms dealer.

It is a good move by DC - agreed. People who escape election duty, will still do it for years now. With due respect to DC, I am also told that basic facilities are lacking at most booths in village areas. What will officials ( specially ladies ) do for basic personal needs like bath room / toilet? Most of the times I believe they are helped by local neighbors. It is sad there are no basic facilities given to these officials who go on election duty.

    Easy said Mr.DC
No basic amenities provided during the election duties. Very low pay for the extra effort that's put on. Treat the officials with respect especially the teachers. It wont be long when there will be shortage of Teachers in the country.

Last time when i had been the officer for election duty, there was no toilet, bath basic facility.
Can we keep the EVM and go to the forest for basic needs.
That is highly inconvenient for simplest person.
Can DC make it compulsory for the places were we go for election duties be provided with basic facility. Thank you.
