Woman jumps into well inside police station compound

Puttur, Feb 9: A woman tried to commit suicide by jumping into an open well located within the compound of the police station here on the evening of Monday February 8. She has been identified as Nagamma (40) from Bengaluru.

Nagamma has been living at Panjala in the outskirts of the town since sometime. She had come here to work for a cashew plantation near Narimogaru village, but instead o working there, she reportedly went away and was found sitting in front of a house belonging to a woman named Jyoti.

As Nagamma looked like having been mentally deranged, police personnel from the town station were called to the spot. The police personnel, with the help of locals, brought her to the town station here. She sat there for sometime, but suddenly rushed outside thereafter, and jumped into the well there. Later, fire brigade personnel visited the spot and rescued Nagamma.

Nagamma was then admitted into the government hospital here. It is said that there too she was talking nonsense for sometime, before attempting suicide by making a noose out of the clothes she was wearing. As she was found to be behaving erratically because of her mental condition, she was sent to the hospital at Mangaluru for further care.
