Udupi, Feb 9: "Six people (four men, two women), found wandering on the road as destitutes finally got reunited with their families after several months," announced Sunil John D’Souza at a press meet on Monday February 8.

Addressing reporters he recounted six destitutes who were reunited with their families. 45 year old, Balappa son of Siddappa hailing from Gadag taluk was found at Padubidri on July 7, 2015 in a mentally unstable condition.

Vimala hailing from Satara district has her family at Satara. According to her, she worked as a coolie and has two children. Vimala was noticed in a bad condition at Katpady on October 8, 2015. She is now able to identify her address.

Another wanderer Kabir aged 22 from Satara, was found wandering around Padubidri five months back. Within five months of entering the rehabilitation center he recovered. He now shows interest in getting back to his hometown.

Vidyadhar Savanth from Maharashtra says he had lost his family, but had only shelter. He then decided to do coolie work. At the rehabilitation center, he was trained in animal husbandry and horticulture.

Prakash from Maharashtra was found at Shirva in a mentally unstable state. On receiving long time treatment he was cured and is now willing to return home.

Another lady Yashoda from Muddapura, Davangere district was found at Mangaluru in a weakened state. She is now cured and ready to meet her family.

Sunil said that as many as 28 people have recovered at the center. Nearly 150 inmates at Vishwasada Mane have undergone treatment and around 530 people have been sent back home on recovery. They include senior citizens, women, kids etc.

Edwin Menezes, John Nuton and others were present at the press meet.

The home welcomes monetary support for its rehabilitation work.
