Karkala, Feb 10: In a shocking incident reported from Arabbi in Ninjoor village in the taluk, a man, who was intoxicated, bit off the lips of his own father, after torturing him with a Kadsale (weapon resembling sword).

Santosh Poojary (36), committed this crime, and his father, Narayan Poojary, lost about half portion of his lips. Narayan stands admitted into the government hospital here.

It is gathered that on Sunday late night, Narayana Poojary was fast asleep, when his son, Santosh, woke him up. Santosh started a fight with his father for frivolous reasons, took in his hands the traditional 'Kadsale' found at the seat of the Bhoota (spirit) at the house, and began to hit his father indiscriminately. As the Kadsale was not sharp, Narayan escaped with minor injuries. Santosh then bit off the lips of his father, as a result of which pieces of his lips including flesh came off.

Narayan, writhing in pain and in a pool of blood, let off loud wails at which neighbours rushed to the spot. They admitted him into the government hospital here.

It is learnt that Santosh, working for a catering firm and addicted to liquor, had suddenly disappeared from home since February 1. His father had filed missing complaint in the town station. Santosh was sighted thereafter in bad mood on Sunday night at his home.
