Mangaluru: Lady cop caught on camera without helmet; rider fined after pictures go viral

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Police are supposed to not only protect the law but also set an example by following laws and rules themselves. And in this age where anything interesting goes viral in a flash, pictures of rule-breaking cop are something that attract much attention.

The compulsory helmet rule for pillion riders that came into force recently has raked in lacs of rupees for the traffic police who have been strictly enforcing the rule. However, in one instance on Wednesday February 10, a lady cop was caught on camera riding pillion without the helmet.

The pictures, clicked by an unknown person near Kankanady, show a lady cop riding pillion with a male cop.

The pictures soon went viral on WhatsApp and Facebook, with people sharing the photos with captions like 'Jago public jago'.

As the photos evoked outrage on social media, the higher police authorities took immediate action and fined ASI Sreedhar who was riding the bike Rs 100, which is the amount imposed as penalty for violating the rule.

Rider policeman was fined for giving a ride to a lady cop who was not wearing a helmet. That matter ends there. With this picture, more and more riders as well as pillion riders will make sure that they are wearing a helmet. HELMETS SAVE LIVES.

All the rules are for the general public to follow. Not for the law makers. some of the police manning the traffic junctions are so inept in carrying on the duty assigned to them.A case in point is at the the KS Rao road on way to Sharavu temple road. The police incharge does not bother to guide the traffic. In highly chaotic situation the police fellow is usually seen talking to someone or the other and ignoring his responsibility lettin people take care of the situation as per their whims and fancy. The authorities must post senior or women at these points where traffic regulation is a problem during peak hours. But how to expect any good when they themselves are not abiding by the rules.

    Good side of Smart phones.
The traffic department has been enforcing the seat belt rule strictly, but despite its strenuous efforts, there are several four-wheeler drivers violating the law.
Does that apply to police vehicles too? If yes.

Ha ha ha ... Nice to see this pic. Good lesson to the department people. I have seen many people from the department not following the rules. For example not using belt when they drive four wheeler & not using helmet. Once i paid Rs.100/- fine just because of not put belt at hampankatta near townhall, After some time that inspector went without belt by jeep. I shocked to see that. When we are driving on road these duty cop immediately coming middle of the road. Sometime very difficult to manage these situation. So this is good lesson to the department people. Rules should follow all the people whoever they are ..department, politician, Minister... And fine should collect from everyone.

Surprising, Driver (ASI) fined only Rs100/-There are two offence he had committed.1) Allowing pavilion rider without helmet.2) Helmet he worn don’t meet the minimum requirement of protection. Mean to say (as per Mangalore Traffic COPs, helmet must cover the total face)

Why not fine the driver as well. He is responsible for taking the ASI on his bike without helmet. In many jurisdictions, if a passenger does not wear a seat belt in a car driven by someone else, the driver too is fined.

Even the rider should be punished since the helmet which he is wearing is not with a ISI mark. The helmet which the rider is wearing is a very old and outdated one.

thats the mistake i agree but compared to other polices like bangalore delhi and kerala mangalore polices are decent. so we will forgive it and they are also humans and part of us. this rule is not by them by supreme court of India and many of us also do simple violations of rule not only them. so do not take this as a major concern.

Not just a ASI without helmet, post every video of speeding city buses then force the sleeping RTO and come out fine them every hour.
The youth along with a phone can bring a lot of changes to the society.
Let there be videos of police taking bribe, let there be clips showing Taluk office delaying all works,Let there be videos showing the politicians arriving late to a public function, everything can change, all we need is someone to tie the bell to the cat.
