Mysuru: Attempt to murder JDS candidate - two held, two escape

Mysuru, Feb 11: Close in the heels of reports about a JDS office having been torched by supporters of an unsuccessful candidate  relating to controversy over issuance of party ticket, comes information that four persons claiming to be supporters of the person who has been deprived of ticket, having attempted to murder the official candidate of JDS from H D Kote taluk in the district. Out of the four, who gatecrashed into the house of the candidate and tried to kill him, two were apprehended by the people and handed over to police. The other two succeeded in running away.
 
K Ere Gowda and C V Nagaraju had filed nomination papers on behalf of JDS from Hampapura zilla panchayat constituency of H D Kote taluk. The party had finalized the name of Ere Gowda as the official candidate. As Ere Gowda's nomination papers were found in order, Nagaraju was left with the sole option of fighting the election as an independent candidate. Nagaraju's supporters, angered by this development, had expressed their anger by torching JDS taluk office.
 
On Tuesday night, four persons who were brandishing sickle, swords and cudgels, forced themselves into the residence of Ere Gowda in Kaniyanahundi village. Ere Gowda was not at home then. The women of the house, who became panicky, conveyed information to Ere Gowda. Ere Gowda returned home immediately, after which the gang ordered him to withdraw his nomination, by pointing the weapons at him. They also reportedly tried to smother Ere Gowda. Gowda and women in the household shouted for help, at which the neighbours rushed there and caught hold of two, identified as Dharma and Mahesh. Two others, Ravi and Somu, fled from the scene, it is learnt.
