Doha, Sep 15: large Mangalorean crowd gathered at the Al Ghazal Club to celebrate the annual traditional Novem Jevann, an integral part of the Nativity feast celebration, on Friday, September 14, 2007.

In view of the Holy month of Ramadan, there was no cultural program. However, there was the release of the 6th edition of the club's newsletter, 'Sugandh' and distribution of prizes to the winners of the talent show competitions held in May 2007. In additon the achievers from the Mangalorean community in the CBSE examinations, Sweeny D'Souza, Karishma Vaz and Kimberly Fernandes, were honored.










The opening prayer was said by Charlotte D'Souza. This was followed by the rendition of 'Sakkad Sangatha Melya' by the Children from the nativity choir group, trained under Dony Lobo and Reena Castelino. The President of Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Norbert Corda, welcomed all the fellow Mangaloreans present. Prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Riana Pinto. Prizes were given away by Fabian Mendonca, Dony Lobo and Wilfred Fernandes, prominent members of the Mangalorean community in Qatar.

The newsletter was released by Richard D'souza, former president of MCC. Also present on the dias were Sunil D'silva, Eddie Sequeira and Norbert Corda.

The blessed paddy which was mixed with Roce and distributed to the community members was blessed by Fr Tomasito, parish priest, Our Lady of the Rosary, Qatar.









The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice President of the Club, Sunil D'Silva. Oliver Pereira was the master of ceremony.  Interesting spot games were conducted and the audience enthusiastically took part in the games. Bingo was also played and was conducted by Richard D'Souza and Cyril D'Souza.

The sumptuous home cooked food was appreciated and relished by all. MCC is grateful to Jerry and Leena D'mello for having provided their residence to carry out the cooking for more than six hundred people. Mrs. Ivy Rosario, a well known personality in the church and mangalorean community with her expert culinary skills, led a team of more than fifty volunteers in preparing the meal


The Executive Committee of Mangalore Cricket Club would like to extend their gratitude to all those who have contributed in various ways towards making this event a grand success.
