Mangaluru, Feb 12: Suratkal police have arrested a youth for cheating a girl with the promise of marriage. The girl had tried to commit suicide as the youth had refused to marry her after having friendship with her for almost three years.
Ravil Sharif from Shirur market near here is the person arrested.
Suratkal police have charged Sharif with rape attempt and cheating.
As per details of the case, the girl originally from Manipur, who was studying nursing in Moodbidri in 2013, was chatting with a local boy through V-chat. The chat turned into a friendship. At this time, Sharif who was the friend of that boy got the phone number of the girl from his mobile. Then Sharif managed to befriend the girl.
The friendship turned into love and the couple developed physical relationship as Sharif promised that he would marry her. He even showed her fake registered marriage documents.
Recently Sharif’s parents objected to the marriage saying the girl was older than Sharif in age. They even tried to arrange his marriage with another girl of their choice. Disturbed by the events, the Manipuri girl tried to end her life on February 9 in the hostel she was staying. The hostel belonged to the hospital where she was employed.
Suratkal police are investigating the matter. Meanwhile Sharif was presented in court.
