Udupi, Feb 12: Citizens met at Swarna Bhavana auditorium, Brahmavar on Feb 11 and took a pledge protesting against alleged neglect of Brahmavar by people's representatives and that they will boycott the Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections to be held on February 20.

Brahmavar Taluk Horata Samithi president Barakooru Sathish Poojary speaking on the occasion said that the protest is not by any candidate or political party. “It is a way of protest against injustice to the
people of Brahmavar. First of all Brahmavar Vidhana Sabha vanished. Taluk that was announced was deserted. The recent national highways four lanes shredded Brahmavar. However no elected representative has responded to the pain of Brahmavar. The deserving municipal council of Brahmavar and Mangaluru University substation went to Kaup. Brahmavar is subjected to neglect in all respects,” he said.

“There would not have been problems if a flyover was constructed in Brahmavar,” said Matpadi Nandikeshwara Yakshagana Mandali president Samson Sequeira.

“Even though illegal sand mining is rampant in Brahmavar causing several problems,” nobody is taking action, said former Haradi panchayat president Narayan Sriyan. “People of Brahmavar are deprived
of development,” said Ramanna from the taxi association.

Ashrayadata auto union Brahmavar zone president Akbar Bhasha, Sadashiva Shetty of Goods Riksha Sangha, Herooru, Harish Poojary of Bhajranga Dal and Ronvil of students union expressed their support towards the boycott of elections.
