Mangaluru, Feb 12: A Shama Rao Foundation was established in 1988 with avowed aim of imparting education which could mould the character of the students and make them responsible citizens of the country. It was the firm belief of the founder Adka Shama Rao that education is the tool to transform society. Today the foundation sponsors a plethora of educational institutions imparting education in technology, medical sciences, dental sciences, hotel management, hospitality sciences, pharmacy, business management, nursing, education and PUC. The foundation is ably led by CA A Raghavendra Rao and A Srinivas Rao.

The Srinivas group of colleges is celebrating its 28th year of establishment. A two day programme has been organized at Srinivas Campus, Merlapadav, Valachil on February 13 and 14. The college day of Srinivas group of colleges will be held on February 13. K. Raghavendra, Sr vice president and global head – HR development, Infosys BPO, Bengaluru will be the chief guest. About 10,000 students of Srinivas group of colleges will participate in the function. More than 200 students who have excelled in academics and extracurricular activities will be awarded during the function.

The founder’s day will be celebrated on February 14. Prof S A Kori, executive director, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Govt of Karnataka will be the chief guest of the function. 29 students who studied in Srinivas Group of Colleges and secured ranks in university exams will be felicitated with A Shama Rao Foundation gold medals.

The annual awards instituted by the governing council of A Shama Rao foundation to recognize and honor the people who contribute substantially to the development of identified areas of our society will be presented during the function.
 
A Shama Rao memorial award for the outstanding contribution of individual and community development in the field of education, agriculture, employment generation and literary services will be given to Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva's Education Foundation (R), Moodbidri.

A Shama Rao memorial outstanding teacher's award of the year goes to Sri Yakub S, asst teacher- maths, Govt School, Nada, Belthangady Taluk for his dedicated services as teacher, motivating students to concentrate on studies and guiding them to participate in various co-curricular activities at national and international level.

A Shama Rao memorial award for the outstanding achievement in social contribution will be received by Krishna Kumar Punja, dedicated social worker and management trustee, Sevanjali Prathishtana, Farangipete.
