Mangaluru: Countdown begins for ZP, TP elections in twin districts

Mangaluru, Feb 12: With February 11, being the last day for withdrawal of nominations, heat is mounting up with the election canvassing for the zilla panchayat (ZP) and taluk panchayat (TP) elections in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The elections will be held here on February 20.

The canvassing will stop on February 18 evening, 48 hours before the polling.

There are 116 candidates in the fray in Dakshina Kannada district while in Udupi district there are 77 candidates for ZP elections.

361 candidates are fighting in 136 constituencies for 5 taluk panchayats in Dakshina Kannada districts while 233 candidates have remained in the fray in 98 constituencies for 3 taluk panchayats of Udupi districts.

Congress and BJP are contesting in almost all the constituencies while JD(S), communist and parties are contesting in few constituencies of the twin districts.
