Beltangady: Man dies in bee attack at Killur, children injured

Beltangady, Feb 13: A person died in a bee attack at Killur here on Friday February 12.

Poovappa (60) died in a hospital after he was stung by several bees.

Poovappa who was walking along the road was attacked by several bees.

The bees also stung school children, among whom, a boy named Sumit (13) is said to be serious.

The children have been admitted to a private hospital in Badyar, it is learnt.

It is said that when school children were returning from school, a backhoe was operational nearby. The honeybees, which became hyperactive after having been disturbed by the backhoe, stung the people in the area. Those stung by the bees included some people who tried to shield the children. All of them stand admitted into a private hospital at Badyaru.

Sunni Students Federation taluk vice president, Ummer Saadi, member, Rashid Madani, and secretary of SYS, Ibrahim Saadi, who were passing by in a car, rushed to a nearby house, borrowed some gunny bags, and shielded the children from the honeybee stings. But Monta, who already had come under severe attack of honeybees, succumbed to his injuries.

Beltangady police have registered a case.

    It is so sad that a man died as bees attacked him. Even some school children were stung by the bees out of which Sumit is said to be serious. May the soul of Poovappa RIP and wish a speedy recovery of the other kids. Bees are dangerous if they are disturbed.
