Mangaluru: Hundreds perform Surya Namaskara at Kadri Temple

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts converged at Kadri Temple here on Sunday February 14 to participate in the 9th annual Samoohika Surya Namaskara organized by the city unit of Patanjali Yoga Foundation.

About 450 participants along with the office-bearers of Patanjali Yoga Foundation performed Surya Namaskara that is a combination of 12 asanas.

In the city, the Surya Namaskara was performed at 6 places by the Foundation.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the city unit of the Foundation Narayana Shetty said, "The Surya Namaskara is performed on the seventh day of Vasanta season. Today Car festivals are celebrated in most of the temples as today is the special day of the sun. The sun is the reason for life and is also resonsible for the functioning of earth. We will be largely benefited from him through his light."

Dr Shashikanth Jain, director of Shanthivana Trust, Dharmasthala, yoga instructors Dhananjay, Yogesh Shetty, Chandrakanth Thota were present.

    Do the present generation has time to cope with 1-2hours yoga, the energy loosing and waste of time exercise?! There is no complete exercise better than swimming for 20 minutes to half an hour. Swim half an hour daily and it will be a complete exercise to a human.
    Another method is to run fast 20-30 minutes a day. Complete exercise. No need of energetic tablets just takes meat, fish, eggs and vegetables and you will have good sleep in the night.
    Climbing coconut trees. Working in the Agriculture field will give double benefit 1) Good Health 2) Harvest for the people.

    Yoga and Surya namaskar perform will omit the bad heat from the body. But Some of the comments show even performance picture itself omit some peoples bad heat here.

    Swimming is any day better than Yoga because it is a good all-round activity.
    Swimming keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body.
    Swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.
    Swimming maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs.

    Swimming needs a coach or lifeguard
    Swimming is not good for many type of patients
    Many have died while swimming but not heard of any such case for yoga

    Jayanth, Yoga is a Science and it covers many Asanas and each Asana is for a specific purpose.
    Asanas if not done correctly or wrong Asanas can lead to disability and other complex problems.
    In India Yoga is a surreal Mass Drill and has sadly become "Government by Event Management" ...

    Great to see the pictures of Surya Namaskar on the event of Ratha Saptami on the 14th of February 2016 at Kadri Temple.
    Surya Namaskar means to bow down to the sun in the morning. The sun is the life source for this planet. In everything that we eat, drink and breathe, there is an element of the sun.

    First of all SURYA NAMASKAR is not a physical exercise. It is something much more profound, which needs deep understanding of Sanskrit Vedic literature and Sanatana Dharma.

    It is a complete Sadhana, inclusive of Yogasana ( exercise ) , Mantra ( sound longitudinal waves ) , Pranayama ( breathing ) and Chakra meditation ( scalar energy vortex transceiver ) .

    Surya Namaskar was devised as Yoga 7000 years ago, to facilitate LYMPH DRAINAGE in an amazing manner. This was properly understood by modern science only 70 years go. Our lymphatic system has vessels just like our circulatory system, but does not have a pump (whereas the circulatory system has the heart). In order to clear the “lymph” (the clear extracellular fluid that is collected by the lyphatic vessels and filtered by the lymph nodes), the lymphatic system must be pumped manually. The lymph movement relys on contraction of smooth muscle tissue lining the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis). Movement of skeletal muscles is also important for driving lymph along the systems network of vessels to lymph nodes and from these to lymph ducts where the lymph tissue joins cardiovascular circulation. Women who do Surya Namaskar do NOT get breast cancer.

    As per hindu calendar today in Ratha Saptami. The day we worship Sun God.
    And Surya Namaskara is one of the way of worshipping/saluting Sun God.
